The Sox have looked into replacing Fenway more than once over the years. If they ever do it, I hope the new stadium has more personality than that mock up.

But then they moved into their season-long home...

The 90's(?) concept looked pretty good. It's nearly inevitable yes? At least the 21st century has welcomed back less-is-more seating. The likes of Progressive Field, Coors, & Citi are starting to give me Mount Davis vibes.

How many here will get this reference?
The Deer Hunter was a boring movie, wasn't it?

Was it the sports board or one of the other ones that had epic posts about Tara Reid?

Was it the sports board or one of the other ones that had epic posts about Tara Reid? I seem to remember one. I used to visit some of the movie boards and the Politics Board

Oh man, those Deer Hunter threads were momentous.

Oh man, those Deer Hunter threads were momentous. That's how it started, isn't it? Someone said The Deer Hunter was boring because of the pre-Vietnam scenes and someone went ballistic. And it went on for months.
I liked Sule's thread where he acted like a total ass then claimed his account was hacked. He stuck to it well, even though we all knew he was full of shit.
Real Marco's D-Day threads. His Dunkirk threads

I just like the fact that nuts started this thread by tagging the only 2 legitimate Red Sox fans on this board. Anyone else who speaks for the Sox here are just posers.
I'm glad they stuck with Fenway, but how fascinating it is that they were talking retractable roofs that long ago. I was never aware that they had plans like that back then.

I think Walter O'Malley had plans for a retractable roofed stadium to replace Ebbets. But NYC wouldn't give him the land so it was off to LA

There's been occasional talk about replacing Fenway. Talk is all it is. No stadium with history should ever be replaced. You could build a $100,000,000,000 park in Boston but you still couldn't look out and think, "Babe Ruth pitched here. And Walter Johnson". There was talk a while ago but I think it was just leverage to build the Monster seats. I remember hear about bumper stickers reading "If you build it, we WON"T come"

I remember hear about bumper stickers reading "If you build it, we WON"T come" John Henry & Co. always wanted to build a new park but the fans wouldn't let them, hence the constant offseason reno projects. As far as I'm concerned there aren't enough modern amenities to make up for the history lost when you tear down a ballpark built over a 100 years ago, that is still perfectly functioning and regarded as a shrine to baseball.

I hated seeing Comiskey, Tigers, Yankee Stadiums being torn down. They should be historical landmarks but I get it. Then someone has to maintain the thing and that won't be cheap. They turned old tigers Stadium into a youth center. Kids, High schoolers et al can play where Cobb and Kaline did. That's cool
