Grodin is the master of the delivery of the understated comic line ... making the line so much funnier. Nice.

Liked him in The Heartbreak Kid, Midnight Run, and Heaven Can Wait. Enjoyed his repartee with Letterman over the years. But he seems rather unlikable. I find him a spikey character, but I like his persistent manner. I liked seeing him interviewed by Sean Hannity who's used to dominating the conversation.

Charles Grodin has died at the age of 86. A sharp, funny man. He'll be missed.
Thanks for the movies, Mr. Grodin; rest well.

R.I.P.
Always a watchable performer.
He stole MIDNIGHT RUN right out from under DeNiro and all the other quality cast members.

His scenes with Eddie Albert in The Heartbreak Kid are great. Both are in top form.

R.I.P. Charles Grodin
Strangely this was the first movie that I took notice of him.

Grodin, R.I.P., often played horrible jerks, but he did it well - so much so that I actually liked seeing him be a jerk in a movie. He was always so oddly amusing as a talk show guest, too.
I have to admit I have not seen either of his Beethoven films (I believe there were 2) but now that he has passed away I feel obligated to track those down and watch them - not to mention some other films of his that I've missed over the years. I sincerely hope that TCM channel puts on a Charles Grodin tribute one of these days, airing about 6 or 7 of his films.
petrolino, your OP was nice - very informative.

This thread, coming just before his passing, goes to show he had not been forgotten or unappreciated. Charles Grodin has been in many comedy classics, but to me, none were funnier than his role as Steve Martin's even lonelier friend in The Lonely Guy (1984). Every conversation between those two is hilarious, and knowing that the two of them were such great pals and were mostly improvising all their scenes together makes it all the more special. It really feels like we're losing all the best of the best lately.
