The one fantastic thing about being in self-isolation is that I've been able to watch more movies over the past month or so than I have in the past few years combined. It has been great to watch (and re-watch) some classics that I haven't seen in years.
With that being said, I'd love to see some Top 50 (or 100) all-time lists. Perhaps there are films I'm missing out on that I need to check out!
Here's my Top 50...
#1) The Godfather: Part 2 | Francis Ford Coppola #2) 2001: A Space Odyssey | Stanley Kubrick #3) Apocalypse Now | Francis Ford Coppola #4) The Godfather | Francis Ford Coppola #5) Taxi Driver | Martin Scorsese #6) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest | Milos Forman #7) Barry Lyndon | Stanley Kubrick #8) Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb | Stanley Kubrick #9) Chinatown | Roman Polanski #10) Network | Sidney Lumet
#11) The French Connection | William Friedkin #12) The Deer Hunter | Michael Cimino #13) A Clockwork Orange | Stanley Kubrick #14) Raging Bull | Martin Scorsese #15) On The Waterfront | Elia Kazan #16) Alien | Ridley Scott #17) The Empire Strikes Back | Irvin Kershner #18) 12 Angry Men | Sidney Lumet #19) Nashville | Robert Altman #20) Goodfellas | Martin Scorsese
#21) The Departed | Martin Scorsese #22) Deliverance | John Boorman #23) Dog Day Afternoon | Sidney Lumet #24) Citizen Kane | Orson Welles #25) The Shining | Stanley Kubrick #26) The Sting | George Roy Hill #27) Jaws | Steven Spielberg #28) Fargo | Joel Coen #29) Patton | Franklin J. Schaffner #30) The Irishman | Martin Scorsese
#31) Million Dollar Baby | Clint Eastwood #32) The Silence Of The Lambs | Jonathan Demme #33) The Exorcist | William Friedkin #34) The Bridge On The River Kwai | David Lean #35) JFK | Oliver Stone #36) Sideways | Alexander Payne #37) The Thing | John Carpenter #38) No Country For Old Men | Ethan Coen & Joel Coen #39) Halloween | John Carpenter #40) Pulp Fiction | Quentin Tarantino
#41) Kill Bill: Volume 1 | Quentin Tarantino #42) The Shawshank Redemption | Frank Darabont #43) There Will Be Blood | Paul Thomas Anderson #44) Blood Simple | Joel Coen #45) Toy Story | John Lasseter #46) Amadeus | Milos Forman #47) Star Wars | George Lucas #48) Adventureland | Greg Mottola #49) Scream | Wes Craven #50) Wild Strawberries | Ingmar Bergman
Currently at the intermission point in Lawrence Of Arabia. If the second half is half as good as the first, then the above list will change.

Ill just give my top 10. Beyond that it becomes a bit arbitrary to rank them in order all the way to 50.
1) Godfather II 2) Terminator 2 3) Godfather I 4) Brokeback Mountain 5) Castaway 6) Independence Day 7) Arrival 8) Taxi Driver 9) 12 Angry Men 10) Pulp Fiction

Ill just list my favorite movies of the previous decade for now instead of picking my very top movies straight up. but for measure here is how things break down on my all-time list in terms of score to the volume of movies I gave each score... 10/10 = 6 movies 9/10 = 10 movies 8/10 = 23 movies 7.5-8/10 = 39 movies 7/10 = 77 movies 6-6.5/10 = 35 movies that makes up 190 movies which are the ones that stand out from the pack. actually it's 155 movies but there is an additional 35 that are close to favorite movie status for me. I don't have any restrictions on movies as I rate them simply by how much all around I enjoy them and the further they get away from that standard the lower the rating. My top movies of the previous decade (i.e. 2010-2019) are...1.Skyfall (2012) - 9/10 -.The American (2010) 3.True Grit (2010) - 8-8.5/10 4.The Descendants (2011) - 8/10 -.Source Code (2011) -.Edge of Darkness (2010) 7.Django Unchained (2012) - 7.5-8/10 -.Young Adult (2011) -.The Book of Eli (2010) -.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) -.Men, Women & Children (2014) -.Kill the Irishman (2011) -.Unthinkable (2010) -.London Boulevard (2010) -.Spectre (2015) -.Shot Caller (2017) -.Nebraska (2013) -.Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) -.Hostiles (2017-2018) -.El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019) -.At Middleton (2013) -.Ford v Ferrari (2019) 23.The Grey (2011-2012) - 7-7.5/10 -.Flight (2012) -.Robot & Frank (2012) -.The Artist and the Model (2012-2013) -.Ex Machina (2015) 28.Machete (2010) - 7/10 -.Drive Angry (2011) -.Carnage (2011) -.Drive (2011) -.Before Midnight (2013) -.Rush (2013) -.The Lone Ranger (2013) -.Edge of Tomorrow (2014) -.Good Kill (2014-2015) -.The Age of Adaline (2015) -.Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018) -.The Irishman (2019) 40.The Hateful Eight (2015) - 6.5-7/10 --.Lawless (2012) --.Nocturnal Animals (2016) --.John Wick (2014) --.The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) --.Byzantium (2012-2013) --.Dom Hemingway (2013-2014) Cool list. Django falls just outside of my Top 50. The only one from last decade that makes it for me is "The Irishman". Zero Dark Thirty is #51.

Unique list. I love many of those films. I tend to shy away from 80s films (don't like the majority of them), but how good in Gandhi? I own it but still haven't watched it!

I fleshed out a top 100 on old IMDb...but it got lost in the fire. I’ll try and flesh out a top 50.

My current list, I listed my whole top 100 (which tbh is constantly changing so it's by no means definitive). I always feel the need to mention that I've seen a lot more movies from the last 2 decades than the decades before, so this list is mainly more recent movies, but I am watching a lot more 'older' movies now by watching as many movies as possible from my 1,500 movie watchlist (which still continues to grow faster than I can watch movies).

walklikebrando Keep in mind that list is STRICTLY my favorite movies of the 2010's decade (i.e. 2010-2019), it's NOT my Top 50-ish movies of all-time. although... the first six movies I listed are within my Top 39 movies of all-time and the movies I got listed between 7-22 on my 2010's list would be within my Top 78 movies of all-time.
so as you can see there is still 22 movies released between 2010-2019 time frame that makes my Top 78 movies of all-time. so 28.2% of my Top 78 movies are released between 2010-2019 time frame.

Don't see Kiarostami get too many mentions around here. Someone I hope to explore more. "Close-Up" is another very good one. The story behind is just as great. Kinda similar to "The Battle of Algiers", but goes even further with a re-creation, which must have been REAL awkward for those involved.

I've not seen that yet. I really liked his final film, the experimental/non-narrative 24 Frames.
