They lowered Rosetta Stone to $200 for all languages for a lifetime so I bought it. I'm starting with Spanish and will use my mom to help me practice since she was fluent at one point. I'm also going to watch more spanish films.

I can speak English and Arabic, and I've almost gotten the hang of reading and writing Arabic - as I said, it's difficult. I wish I could learn Cantonese. It was the native language of my maternal grandfather. I'm thinking it's probably harder than Arabic.

wouldnt do it. its very unlikely u will use it for multiple languages so the fact its unlimited doesn really mean much plus i am not a fan of RS. if u want to study on your own you can do so for free. i have good experience with duo lingo. i speak 5 languages total (neither learned on an app) I'm trying duo lingo now and I like it. I'm wondering how it compares with Rosetta Stone. I quite liked duo lingo too. For me personally it worked better than RS.

Hindi, English, Urdu and Magahi. But I will like to point out that Hindi and Urdu are not much different. The main difference is that Hindi has a lot more Sanskrit derived words and Urdu borrows words from Persian and Arabic. But the base of Urdu language is still Sanskrit and main words are Sanskrit derived. But being a language of Muslims it borrows a lot from Persian and Arabic. Don't forget to point out that Hindi uses a Sanskrit script - (? would you call it that)? But Urdu uses an Arabic script. It's the same language really, just different scripts. Hindi/Sanskrit right now employ Devanagari script which has emerged from ancient Brahmi script. Urdu's script is a mix of both Persian and Arabic.

Yes i am bilingual i can speak Norwegian and English And i understand Danish and Swedish I do also understand some German What about Icelandic? If you know the three main Scandinavian languages, is Icelandic intelligible? Iceland is not Scandinavia so Icelandic is not a Scandinavian language its a Nordic language, anyway to answer your question. Icelandic is very different from Norwegian, Swedish and Danish so no i don`t understand or speak Icelandic.

I know all the cuss words in Spanish. I only know one cuss word in Cantonese, taught me by my grandfather when I when a child. At least he said it was a bad word - for all I know it might mean 'hello'.

I speak Portuguese and Spanish Not fluently but I wouldn't starve there. Lol In calif a knowledge of spanish is necessary You are smart to learn a language. It is good for one's brain NY, too. Heck, Spanish is necessary everywhere in the US. Maddon! Trouble is: what most of them actually speak isn't Castilian. So all of us who learned Spanish from people from Spain basically wasted our time.

I googled and Sanskrit is the language and Brahmi is the script. I'll assume Persian script is based on Arabic though. I honestly do not have any knowledge on whether Persian script is based on Arabic or vice verse. From what I understand, Persia was a greater civilisation than Arab for a longer time in history. In fact, Persians had occupied many parts of Arabia including Israel for long time. Zoroastrianism influenced Judaism and consequently all Abrahamic religions to some extent.

Seriously. I'm not kidding. I tried to get my computer to go bilingual and I stopped counting Spanish dialects after I had gotten to 26 and I wasn't anywhere near Castilian Spanish!!! I said fvk it. I speak Castilian Spanish. And I know some words in other languages.

I just fixed that answer in my other message... Dialects of Spanish. My main point: I speak Castilian Spanish and they can't understand me.

So I bought Rosetta Stone and I'm using it and Duolingo. I am also making myself watch at least one Spanish film per day. I realize it's not the same as taking actual classes, but it's fun when I realize I'm picking up on some stuff! I have an all-Spanish thread going on another site. I'd like to eventually take some formal classes.
My grandsons are part Mexican so I would love to take them to Mexico some day. And as I mentioned in my other thread, I would love to eventually do some medical missionary work and knowing Spanish would be a plus if I go to CA or SA. I'm using that goal to keep me motivated!
I would still love to learn Arabic for work, but let's see how I do with Spanish, lol.

I think watching movies in foreign language actually helps a lot, especially with subtitles in that language as well. I learned a lot of french from watching Friends and Adam Sandler movies in french with french subtitles

I don't know if you've ever watched King Of The Hill, but right now I feel like Peggy Hill, lol. French is such a gorgeous language! Everything sounds sexy in French, lol.
