His parents were circus acrobats and he became part of their act. When they changed to vaudeville and wound up in California, he got a job in the movies. The founder of Universal Pictures Carl Laemmle changed his name. In silent films he played somewhat dimwitted youngsters. He will always be associated with his character in a long-running series at Columbia Pictures and on radio. It took a while but: Arthur Lake I’ll repost mine now. He was born to a respected biologist and an adventurous young woman. He was a rambunctious child who could be counted on to find trouble. He managed to have himself thrown out of every school he was enrolled in. In his late teens he set out to find gold, but instead found a series of short lived odd jobs. Information is sketchy, but the positions of police constable, sanitation engineer, treasure hunter, sheep castrator, shipmaster for hire, fisherman, and soldier seem to be among his more reputable career choices. Staying one jump ahead of the law and jealous husbands forced him to flee his native country.

Michael Caine (Mutiny) This one is easy but entertaining. He was born to a respected biologist and an adventurous young woman. He was a rambunctious child who could be counted on to find trouble. He managed to have himself thrown out of every school he was enrolled in. In his late teens he set out to find gold, but instead found a series of short lived odd jobs. Staying one jump ahead of the law and jealous husbands forced him to flee his native country. A sheep castrator fleeing jealous husbands--gotta be Errol Flynn. A ...character actor, [he] was born...in England and his childhood rivaled the brutality that Charles Dickens ever dreamed up. He lived for a while in an orphanage after being separated from his parents. While still young, he was sent to a Toronto branch of the orphanage. There he began a cycle that involved living in 17 foster homes--the longest being with a farm family that treated him like a slave. At age 11 he ran away and joined a vaudeville troupe called the Winnepeg Kiddies, with whom he stayed until 1914. He then joined a friend named X and the two "hoboed" their way into the United States. After the friend was crushed to death by a railroad car, he took the name X in his memory and found work in theatrical troupes and repertory companies.

An American stuntman who, after more than 30 years in the business, MISTER X moved into acting and became an acclaimed and respected character actor, he was a native of Los Angeles. He grew up around horses and as a teenager was offered an opportunity to ride in films. He appeared in horse-racing scenes and cavalry charges unbilled, first as a general rider and later as a stuntman. His riding and stunting skills gained him regular work doubling stars ranging from Roy Rogers to Gary Cooper, and he often doubled the bad guy as well...

X was the middle son of three boys. His parents were quite well-to-do and came from a rich heritage. X was named after an ancestor who wrote the song, "Home, Sweet, Home." The boys grew up privileged on a Roanoke, Virginia estate complete with equestrian stables and swimming pools. At his mother's request, X took singing lessons in order to curb an extreme shyness problem.

Xwas born in Petersburg, Virginia, into a well-to-do Southern family. He was the eldest of three sons born to an assistant Xand his brothers spent their summers at their aunt and uncle's home at Virginia Beach. And there and at an early age he discovered a passion for story-telling, reciting, and performing acts for his family. He studied acting at the Hickman School of Expression in Washington, D.C. and worked as an advertising agent afterward. But by 1924 tried to enter acting in New York. His money opportunities were limited to shipping clerk, and after a year of attempting stage work, he left with friends, heading for Miami. There he found a variety of jobs: lifeguard, salesman, a stint as entrepreneur -- making and selling 'Tip Top Potato Salad' - but more significantly, drama critic for the Miami Herald. That evidently led to appearance in plays at the Miami Civic Theater. Through a connection at the Miami Herald he managed to land an assistant stage manager job in New York. In 1929 he was engaged for a season at the Copley Theatre in Boston, and there he was able to expand his acting experience, appearing in 30 plays in a wide variety of parts. By 1930 he made his Broadway debut.

X was born of Irish descent in New York City. His illustrious ancestors hailed from county Limerick and were listed in Burke's Peerage. He had a Catholic education at St. Cecilia's Academy, but absconded from school at the age of 14 to become a song plugger. He briefly joined a children's vaudeville company run by Gus Edwards. At 16 he enlisted in the Navy, was thrown out, re-enlisted to experience wartime action with the U.A. Signal Corps in France, then spent years sailing the world's seas with the Merchant Marine. Around this time, he acquired as many as eight languages and became adept at dialects. X then spent some time in Paris singing and dancing with a stage troupe...he returned to New York for further theatrical work, possibly with Molly Picon's Yiddish Theatre. Back in Hollywood in 1930, [his] gift for dialects were to land him plum character parts as Arabs, Italians, Pacific Islanders, Hindus, Mexicans, African-Americans and Orientals.

Thus was he graduated from the innocuous to the noxious.

TRY THIS ONE X was born at his mother's home of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1914. A frail, sickly child, he was taken by his parents to the warmer climate of southern California. Although raised by his mother, he corresponded with his father, who encouraged his acting dreams. For one tough cookie who achieved major cult stardom with her hard-bitten blonde looks and "Perfect Vixen" tag, X in real life was a lovely, spirited, gentle-looking lady. She may have peaked only briefly in 1940s Hollywood low-budgeters, but she made the most of it during that fairly short tenure. Out of the dozens of movies under her belt, one film part shot her to femme fatale infamy and, to this day, remains her biggest claim to fame ?

Her parents divorced while she was still a child, and she lived with her mother. Like most little girls, X liked to dance. At fourteen, she formed a dance act with a boy and they won $500 in a local talent contest. They took a brief trip to Hollywood to test the waters. They felt they could succeed, so they returned to Cincinnati with the intention of packing and making a permanent move to Hollywood. Tragically, the night before she was to move to Hollywood, she was injured riding in a car hit by a train, ending the possibility of a dancing career.
It was a terrible setback, but after taking singing lessons she found a new vocation, and at age 17, she began touring with the X Band . X’ s agent talked her into taking a screen test at Warner Bros. The executives there liked what they saw and signed her to a contract (her early credits are often confused with those of another actress who appeared mainly in B westerns in the 1930s and 1940s).
