You know, they make a big deal about Fred trying to murder her former professor, but she's already got kind of a mean streak in her going back to Pylea. Somehow she has a bag of blood ready to go when Angel transforms; and later she casually says she's going to roll the guard into the draken gully, presumably to his death, "like the others". Sure, the guard and ostensibly whomever the "others" all were, were all demons; and with either Angel or with Buffy, there's very little quibbling over killing a demon, unless they're benign or outright good, with most demons being evil. It's not to suggest that these guards, or whatever their station was, were good or even morally gray, but they fall to their blurred line between human and demon, where they're clearly sentient beings; and while they arguably deserve to be killed, the fact that it's Fred who kills them and so casually, and after they've been subdued, demonstrates a ruthless side of her they kind of take for granted later.

Okay, admittedly Angel is the one who actually ends up killing the guard, but Fred was willing; and Fred said she had rolled others into the gully.

Do you think that might be foreshadowing Illyria, particularly if we had actually gotten S6 and Fred and Illyria were separated?

I'm not sure about that, just more that the character has a darker side than they let on.

I'm not sure about that, just more that the character has a darker side than they let on. That's reasonable. Although, in fairness, Fred (whom I adore) was so sweet that almost any negative trait would be super dark by comparison. She reminds me of a description I once saw of Disney actress Dove Cameron [paraphrased]: She seems to be made of spun sugar! I really have to rewatch Angel. Soon.

That's probably one of the best parts about that line; she says it so innocently and sweetly.

I'm sure the "others" were the other guards who had attacked them. I don't consider having a bag of blood something dark for a person who'd been living as a wild fugitive for who knows how long. I'm sure she hunted or trapped animals to eat.
