This episode personifies everything wrong with season 6. God, I hate this episode, it's so stupid. Like the test where time around Buffy keeps skipping ahead - a)how? b) who does no one, especially Tara, not notice these things as an outside observer? and c) these idiots can build a tiny ass camera with better resolution than we have on the average camera phone 20 years later, and they're dicking around in Sunnydale, messing with the Slayer? Just that technology alone would allow all three of them to be able to wipe themselves with $100 bills for the rest of their life; to say nothing of the casual ability to manipulate time like that (or later, when they make Buffy repeat her day)
And to go back to b) How does Tara, who is experiencing time normally, not notice Buffy....what... standing still? Eventually Buffy's standing there talking to Tara, then all of sudden Tara is outside the building, halfway across campus. She just walked away when Buffy froze mid-sentence or disappeared from normal space-time?
I don't even know what to make of the construction site scenario; so filled with cliches and plot conveniences. I'd argue the whole thing was a plot convenience in its own right, to round out her experience to three, since working at the Magic Box seems like the most logical decision to ensure Buffy can at least support herself and Dawn for the immediate future, if not necessarily a long term plan.
And then of course they have to add in the stupidity in the Magic Box to invalidate that option; so Buffy can be left stuck without a viable option moving forward. I mean, come on, she spends half the time there anyway; and she's probably helped with the odd unpaid job before that. It's arguably the only job short term that would definitely not conflict with her Slaying responsibilities; she wouldn't even have to be coy about it, like with any other job. No matter how bad the experience was with the mummy hand and the time-loop, it makes no sense for her to decide not to work there; she's still going to be there regularly, might as well get paid.
