She wasn't a figurehead for 'butter' per se, she was a figurehead for the Native American presence in the 10,000 lakes region.

I never considered it to be racist, just wondered why she was a 'figurehead' for butter. I researched on Native American boards and blogs from before this year and didn't find any pointing this out as particularly racist. They did complain about it as another commercialization of their experience. Some pointed out the origin.
