The governor of Iowa is loosening official restrictions in most counties. Not all businesses buy her optimism, and many of them are not following her lead.

I see that happening, and around here, they've started opening some parks. I understand some logic, one can maintain a six foot distance. But then I wondered, what about drafts? I may be over-thinking this, but this is so deadly, I'd rather over-think it. Imagine you're 6' down from someone with COVID who coughs, and the breeze is blowing sufficiently aggressively in your direction. Genuine question would be is that enough to get infected droplets into your eyes or nose or around your mask if you're wearing one?

In Ontario, Canada.....not really.
The premier (who has been doing a PHENOMENAL job thru all this, BTW) did give us a glimmer of hope - saying the curve for new cases is starting to flatten. However, in Ontario, there were still just about 500 new cases of COVID-19 reported yesterday alone.
He did have a plan to start opening things up in Ontario. He did emphasize that it's now just a matter of WHEN this gets rolled out.
To me, that's like saying the Blue Jays are going to be playing the Yankees - we just don't know WHEN.
I think it's still WAY too early to start opening things up. I mean - yes, I feel sorry for those who have lost their job / have been on reduced hours due to the pandemic. However, there have been assistance programs set up by the government to help thru these trying times.
Then again, I've heard/seen some of the horror stories on trying to sign up for EI (Employment Insurance) and the new CERB (Canadian Emergency Response Benefit). I saw one news report on TV of someone trying to call to set up EI benefits at least 100 times (seriously).

Some places are like fast food restaurants and golf courses, but there are tight restrictions in place.

The corona virus can remains air borne for several hours so even if you keep 6' apart there is still an excellent chance that you might walk into an invisible cloud of the bugs. No one is really sure if masks actually work, although the general feeling is that they are better than nothing. www.newscientist.com/article/2240288-do-face-masks-work-against-the-coronavirus-and-should-you-wear-one/

Only a negligible amount. They've more decriminalized going to the beach than really opened anything up.

While we've been talking of spaces opening up, I've been looking into what is and isn't opening up near me. There's a dog park about an hour away from me in a town I've never been to, so I'm not familiar with its setup, size, arrangement or placement for fitting of dogs-to-people, but so far, it's the only one that's opened up. (I suppose that should be a clue). Then, in this evening's news I hear that they're advising people who are venturing out with pets, whether it's to the beaches, dog walks together, or playing in a yard, to still exercise caution because they're picking up COVID in dogs and cats, so there's concern about transmission between pets from different households. They still don't know how or if they can transmit it between themselves or even transmit it to humans, but after hearing this, my rush of hope is crushed of bringing the dog out to play.

I don't understand. I've seen clips on YT about how people are viewing this as the government "telling them what to do." Well, the government is trying to protect them and those they come in contact with during a viral pandemic we can't control and for which there's no vaccine.
They'd rather kick and stomp their feet than protect their lives?

They'd rather kick and stomp their feet than protect their lives? Some people simply do not trust the government at all.

As far as I was aware, in my area, restaurants were still closed. But I drove past what was one of the town's largest and busiest restaurants ever, always packed, like a giant steak house. It's been closed for a while now. Today I drove by and the parking lot was completely packed again, so full there were cars along the street.
Seemed odd given none of the other restaurants are still remaining closed.

They rolled out a plan today to open up in phases.
I don’t think it’s supposed to start until after this months long weekend though.

Did you ever find out what all the hullaballoo with the fireworks was about? I've had to start closing the window at night despite a beautiful, cool and lovely evening breeze because it allows percussion. Closing the windows and pulling the drapes at least allows a wee bit of baffling.
PS: Bummer. How does one tag?

autumn You tag the username not the display name. If you’re on a desktop the username is below the users avatar. There is also a simple-tag feature in the reply box - the icon with an @sign a little person between the film icon and the giant C icon. There you can put in a display name.

You have to use a person's registered user name to tag them, not their screen name. TheOriginalPinky is her screen name, and 1234567b is her registered name, so you'd want to put your "@" symbol in front of 1234567b in order to tag her. (I see that you are using autumn as both your screen name as well as your registered name, so to tag you, I would simply but an "@" in front of autumn.)
