This makes no sense. My dried pasta says 08/21. So it's good only for 3 days after that?? Dried pasta (file photo, above) can last for up to three days after its Best Before. It follows university researchers warning an increase in illegal waste dumping has followed tip closures

I've eaten yogurt 6 months past the date and it was perfectly good.

I noticed my bottle of Taco bell sauce has an expiration date of last November. It is still good.
Can't imagine it going bad for quite a long time

I always thought best by dates were different than expiration dates.
Like after the best buy date the same quality won't be there (like a chip that isn't as crispy as a fresh one).
Expiration date meaning it's likely to go bad after that date and make you sick.

You have to watch it with some foods obviously, but at the end of the day the manufacturers want more of your money and count on you getting rid of perfectly good grub and replacing it with more of the same. It's one of the biggest cons going with a lot of products.

5 years for jam? Guess I'd better toss the strawberry jam I have that predates printed dates on them. I'd say it's 15 or so.

My mother just used she had forgotten in her fridge that "expired" in 2015. If it didn't activate, she would toss it. No problem.
I've said this before, having worked in a grocery store - sniff EVERYTHING and taste EVERYTHING regardless of dates. You don't know where it's been, what shelf it's been on, if it's been put back into the fridge/freezer after being defrosted. Supermarkets don't throw anything out unless it's spoiled and visibly rotten. Butter left on the shelf? Back to the back of the fridge (pick from the front or middle); defrosted vegetables, to the bottom of the freezer.
You also don't know if the truck has broken down, if the freezer unit was working, if it came defrosted and was hurriedly shoved in the freezer to "firm up". I, personally, have tossed stuff that's gone bad before it's date and I still use stuff that's past its date.
I agree with staggerstag - it's a bit of a scam.
