It may seem somewhat absurd to call anything from the Star Wars soundtrack, one of the most beloved and celebrated scores in movie history, to be underrated. Still there are some tracks that I think are overshadowed by the more iconic pieces in the library of Star Wars music. As such I'll share a few here.
THE FLAG PARADE ( The Phantom Menace ) - I love the propulsive energy of this music. It is great on its own, but it also enhances the spectacle of the scene it plays over.
THE BATTLE OF ENDOR I - (Return of the Jedi (0:00 -2:26)) - Calling this one underrated may be questionable, but I'll include it anyway. I love how it slowly builds to the operatic part, it really mirrors the rebel's situation as they quickly go from a planned attack to a chaotic fight for survival.
SCHERZO FOR X-WINGS ( The Force Awakens ) - It maybe just another piece of Star Wars battle music, but it has the sense of excitement and fun that you expect. It might not be anything ground breaking, but it is a welcome addition.
CANTO BIGHT ( The Last Jedi ) - I seem to be the only person who likes this music, but I have no problem defending it. It sounds like a classier version of the Cantina music from A New Hope. It fits within the universe and is pretty catchy.
THE BATTLE OF CRAIT ( The Last Jedi ) - Like "Scherzo" it is just another great piece of Star Wars battle music. It is fun, energetic, and exciting. And, while this may seems like like a left-handed compliment, I love it when the classic "TIE fighter attack" music kicks in.
A NEW HOME ( The Rise of Skywalker ) - The music has a lovely, bittersweet sound to it. Gives the feeling that even though the ending is happy, you are sad that it is ending. Exactly what is needed for the conclusion of the saga. (Note: this is commentary on the music, not the scene or movie.)
Thanks for reading. If you have any selection of your own, either from the films or other media, please share it.
