When a man brings and opens a box to show the prostitutes what is inside, Séverine (Catherine Deneuve) is the only one who agrees to an encounter, the other women turned away in horror !... .Luis Buñuel found that the most persistent question people asked him about the film later concerned the contents of the box, his reply "since I myself have no idea... 'Whatever you want there to be."

At the end of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) dir: Jan de Bont, Croft finds the object of her quest, Pandora's Box, and wisely leaves it in situ. Pretty, though, ain't it? Reminds me of an amber box my great-aunt used to keep hairpins in.   Interestingly, nearly all the boxes cited so far cause death or destruction, or the narrow evasion of same, so "Don't open the box" is good advice. I guess Pandora's Box is the archetype of them all. Are there any movies (other than children's movies) where opening a mysterious box brings positive results? |
