I have not seen many John Wayne movies but what I have seen there is not a single one I like currently. but... I am not going to write him off yet as I probably need to see maybe a handful more as if I don't like anything by that point, I suspect he's probably just not my thing or at least just happen to be in weak movies. because I realize he's probably one of the biggest names from the old days. but ill say this... True Grit (2010) (8-8.5/10 ; within my Top 39 movies (or not much outside of my Top 16 movies)) wipes the floor with True Grit (1969) (4/10(below average)). big quality gap on those two. about the only thing the 1969 movie has going for it is John Wayne as the 2010 movie is just all-around MUCH better... cast/cinematography etc. on a side note... my dad said he liked the 1969 movie more, but I did not say anything to him as I don't even think the 1969 is vaguely close to the 2010 movie as the 2010 movie actually got even better as time passed for me as I first seen it in the theaters in late 2010. but my re-watches of it on file (i.e. from Dec 27th 2011 to date) are Oct 2012/Apr 2016/May 2019. it was in May 2019 that I bumped up my score a little from a 8/10 to a 8-8.5/10. so I would imagine I have probably seen True Grit (2010) somewhere around five times.
