I really don't think Snyder is anywhere near a Feige. He's closer to a Michael Bay. He tries hard to show that he can copy an image from a comic. Snyder isn't polarizing, he's an edge lord. His DCEU is him trying way too hard to be edgy for no reason. I didn’t say he was, but WB was expecting him to be their Kevin Feige. He was very much the architect of the universe initially. Out of all the problems that the Snyderverse suffered from, a lack of a plan wasn’t one of them. Wasn't talking about planning, but the passion of it. I think Snyder's plan was to have the movies go into a dark future and change it like DoFP. The problem with that is that he's too edgy to go dark. He started at dark. He just doesn't have the passion for the characters to pull it off.

He just isn’t a very good storyteller.

One thing I’m just going to add for this thread is that it’s kind of surprising to look at just how quickly the interconnected cinematic universe trend seemed to crash and burn, outside of the MCU.

It's from around when Justice League came out. I saw that video years ago, but I don’t see how it debunks the idea that Zack Snyder was passionate about what he was doing. Again, the problem was never a lack of passion. The problem was always that Zack Snyder isn’t very good at telling a story.

Because he doesn't care about the characters. Just like he says in the video and I've said numerous times: They just look up the top stories for those characters. I bet the reason for them saying they gonna merge Cyborg and Flash movies is because all Cyborg stories are with the Titans. That's why we keep getting the same Superman stories.

I’m pretty sure he is a fan of these characters, he just doesn’t seem to care for the wholesome Silver Age versions of them. He’s definitely a fan of stories like TDKR, and he knows enough about the New Gods to use an obscure villain like Steppenwolf. He seems to be of the mind that superheroes are “cool” and “badass”, but mostly when they’re dark and violent. Essentially, he does like superheroes, but he’s more a fan of the edgier 90s era stories, rather than the goofier “Superfriends” kinda of stories. Hell, if Zack Snyder truly didn’t care for superheroes, then he would’ve been the perfect choice for Watchmen, but as many people have pointed out, he didn’t quite seem to get that Alan Moore wrote Watchmen as a giant middle finger to the superhero genre. In particular, he made Rorschach out to be this intimidating badass who punishes child predators, even though the entire point of the character in the comics is that he’s a creepy weirdo with a bigoted black and white worldview.

Nah, I think Snyder is a fan of the imagery or idea of the character and not the character itself. Silver Age? What about Post Crisis? Or any version that's not a straight up killer? By his own admission he made them into killers. Hell, he could have used the animated series version.
You're making my point that he doesn't care when you say he's taking them at face value. He most likely skimmed through TDKR and Watchmen and liked the pretty pictures for storyboard ideas. If that was Moore's intention, Snyder getting the character wrong makes my point. Like he says in the video: If the director/writer(s) change the character then that will be people's impression of the character. I think that is why comic creators change the character to be like they are in the movies. It could be that they realize how it would hurt comic sales if people bought the comics because of the movies and the characters aren't actually like that.

Zack Snyder hasn’t admitted to anything. He tried to defend having Batman kill people, but he never claimed that he made them killers because he didn’t like how they were in the comics. Besides, most of the MCU heroes are killers. I don’t see how Snyder missing the point of an anti-superhero comic somehow proves that he doesn’t like superheroes. My point was that if Snyder truly didn’t like superheroes, then he would’ve been perfect for Watchmen, because the entire point of the comic is to serve as a brutal takedown of the genre. It’s by no means a traditional superhero comic. It’s very much a story about how awful superheroes would be in a real world setting. It’s basically a superhero story for people who dislike superheroes, but the same can’t really be said for the movie.

They did have someone with passion moving the wheel. Zack Snyder was supposed to be their Kevin Feige. If anything, the big thing that ultimately killed any chance of DC having their own successful cinematic universe was WB putting too much faith in a director who’s proven to be extremely polarizing at best. I really don't think Snyder is anywhere near a Feige. He's closer to a Michael Bay. He tries hard to show that he can copy an image from a comic. Snyder isn't polarizing, he's an edge lord. His DCEU is him trying way too hard to be edgy for no reason. Feige is closer to Michael bay. transformers 1 destroyed an entire city with giant robots. its all cgi with a medicore plot. this is what avengers ripped off in 2012.

Snyder comic films are ageing better than feige comic films. man of steel has aged better than mcu films and most will admit the backlash for dawn of jsutice was overblown what snyder may needed was a amazing writer to balance it out because snyder already knows the technical. that been said, you got to admire Snyder guts, Feige can never come close to making watchmen or man of steel.

Never said that he doesn't like superheroes. He just doesn't understand them. He skimmed through one or 2 books, saw pretty pictures and used those for storyboards. Then decided that'd be enough to make his movie look cool.

From what I recall, the no killing rule was more or less a universal thing with both DC and Marvel. That’s why the characters who don’t abide by that rule were often seen as psychotic anti-heroes, like Wolverine and the Punisher. No argument on Snyder not fully understanding superheroes. That’s been a common criticism about his DC movies from the very beginning. All I’m saying is that you can’t deny that he did put passion into BvS. The problem was that it wasn’t the right kind of passion.

Feige movies are just theme parks. the truth is we dont even know how good or bad feige is because he is a disney lapboy following a formula. The proof is just watching just how much many directors has trashed fiege's movies compared to Snyder's.

You haven't given one single point of proof that MCU movies look like theme parks other than post images and videos from MCU and compare it to other movies. Snyder's great at visuals but that's it. He might strike gold once in a while like with Watchmen but he is far below Feige given how he tried and failed to create a cinematic universe.

The problem was that it wasn’t the right kind of passion. I think it's more about being a murderer and going on a spree. Storm could call down lightning and kill a bunch of bad guys in a fight, but they'll look at Logan going on a berzerker rage like "Whoa, buddy." It pretty much goes for all the X-men. They call attention to it for characters like Wolverine because it's his character to be a killer. I mean, really, how many times has Cyclops opened up his optic blast and vaporized a bunch of no named grunts. But then Logan is crazy because he's standing on a mountain of ninjas he killed.
That would be Snyder's passion in making the bad ass movie. Not the subject matter of the movie. That's why Snyder is closer to a Michael Bay than a Chris Nolan. "Look at that awesome shot I made live action that was in a comic panel from The Dark Knight Returns!"

Apparently Jenkins was offered a Justice League movie but she passed on it. "I love comics, but I've come to superheroes through films. There is in me this desire to emulate compared to the movies I saw as a child. A certain spirit that reigned in those times. Is that relevant when I shoot? I don't know. The point is, unlike other directors, I don't really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail. I've been contacted to make a Justice League movie in the past, and it doesn't connect to me. Too many characters." movieweb.com/justice-league-movie-director-patty-jenkins/
