It’s just not a good Zelda game. As a survival and crafting game it’s fine, but it’s not Zelda. That’s the biggest complaint I had with it. The game also gives you no clear indication on what you’re supposed to do, how you’re supposed to do it and where you’re supposed to go to do it.
The game visually looks nice, but that’s the nicest thing I can say about it.

One problem with this game, it has no underworld at all. Barely any caves either. So, it makes it seem like an outside with no inside (it has the best heights and breadth, but a world with no depth). If it had an underworld it would make it seem like there was a sense of the hidden beneath every surface.
Then, also if you had an underworld then you would have restriction /panic with no immediate escape. Which would make the freedom of returning to the outside world more keenly felt.
Also, the games difficulty fails about halfway through the game, making eventide all the more welcome. That's the second problem.
I didn't actually come up with any of that stuff, I just got it from a review somewhere.
Here's what they could have done to make this game better I think:(first of all you can replace the word 'cave' with underground structure or labryinth, or anything that has to do with an enclosed space)
they should have had it so if you die in the game you lose any items you got after you saved last , and you can only save at a few locations strewn throughout. Then they could have had caves strewn throughout the game. At the end of each cave is an item or weapon you can get. But if you try to leave the cave enemies that are tough will fight you. So unless you have an item that you got in another cave you will die. Therefore there's one cave that you have to go to first because it's the only cave where you can fight you're way out of. And in that cave you get an item that will allow you to fight your way out of only one other cave in the game(which will give you another item that lets you get through a different cave). But you have no idea which one it is. You just have to
guess. And then the enemies in the caves are only weak to a certain weapon which varies from cave to cave. Or the enemies in the cave inflict damage that only one set of armour will protect against. Which you have to find in another cave first. But in order to beat that cave you have to go to a certain far away cave. Which could possibly be the first cave you can survive in the game. But if you even can survive it it's gonna be so difficult that you will barely survive if you do. And then in the final cave I don't know they could have ganon I guess? And then they could have castles in the game, they indicate that ganon Is in one of them. And the castles are difficult, so it makes it seem like that's where ganon is but he's actually behind the last cave that you get to. lol.
Actually now that I think of it that game might suck.

Also here's what else additionally they could do: Just like in the game you have a plateau that you can only explore early on, which is one thing I like about BotW:
On the plateau you have a bunch of caves which are all mildy easy. And they will all give you a useful item. But it is only useful on the plateau caves really. So then when you leave the plateau you get to the first 'real' cave which the difficulty increases by so much that you pretty much want to avoid all future caves. This cave will be just easy enough that you can beat it though, but then the cave gives you nothing.
So therefore it would seem that all future caves are pointless to go to, but after beating a few more you'll find one that has an item. Then you'll start to know you indeed have to beat all the caves. And there will be no indication anywhere in the game that that's what you have to do. Therefore the game itself will tell you what you must do without literally telling you. Or something.
So basically if they did all that , imo the game would make you want to go back to it a lot more, than the game that we have. Obviously this game would pretty much be ruined if you just felt like reading a guide of the game. But you wouldn't do so necessarily.
I',m just throwing out some (probably bad) ideas. If you can even call 'em that. It won't happen again.
