Love the Keith Emerson cut, and Murder Rock (1984) was a very enjoyable italian giallo/slasher, and one where the music plays a huge part to why it was such a thrill. Prog-rockers and italian directors often would turn out to become a great success back then, and Keith Emerson and his huge sounds was surely one who fitted well into the horror genre:

I'm a big fan of atmospheric instrumental music in general, not just horror soundtracks. Anyway, here are some personal favorites from horror films.
Few less remembered Carpenter tracks:

Not exactly a horror/thriller movie, but still, I just loved that ridiculous, cool and waaay over the top upbeat and catchy theme or melody, used to so well, in the films end credit scene:
A real shame, there was no more Buckaroo Banzai adventures to come, but I guess it would be hard to follow up the first chapter.
Speaking of cool and catchy 80s themes, I am not sure if this one has been already brought up in the thread, but since I just recently saw the film, I was amazed at how much fun, the synth heavy score turned out to be, and yeah, I felt it deserved to be mentioned:

"Stumbled" upon this damn cool and catchy synth-funk (kind of got a similar Michael Jackson Thriller vibe going very strong) theme, from the ridiculous cheesy Hard Rock Zombies (1985), which sure was something else. Beside the mentioned instrumental/theme, I also like the campy ballads, where the romantic Cassie's Song is an instant classic.

Got around to watch The Ogre aka Demons 3 (1988) by Lamberto Bava, a while ago. The film itself, was not bad, and I quite enjoyed the scenery of the old castle, dungeon and the whole nightmarish stuff the female writer had going, but the best thing, I thought was surely the melodic, sweet, yet kind of sad "childlike" music, which was played all the way through. I am glad someone finally uploaded the score online, as it is really a atmospheric and nice one, but sadly kind of gotten a bit "lost", appearing in a not so impressive movie.

Thanks for bringing these up, mszanadu. The intro of Halloween 3, sends shivers right into my spine, whenever I hear those icy calculating synth sounds, which just feels so damn evil and inhuman. Not sure if this has been posted earlier or not, but always found it to come with a solid hook and melody/theme to it, and was included in the 1984 sci-fi/thriller, with a bit of giallo vibes thrown in, by the name of Blind Date.

Picked up on these two enjoyable and fun late 80s and early 90s horror films known as The Unnamable 1 and 2, where I visited during the recent October Halloween Challenge, and decided that I had to pick up one of the films on DVD, and Unearthed Films gave the original a new go, back in 2018. However, the ending theme by Mark Ryder and Phil Davies, Up There, has such a haunting and moody sound and lyrics to it, and I notice that the duo has done an incredible work within many fun and creepy 80s and 90s horror and sci-fi films, but of what I have heard yet, I think this tune is my favorite, and just wished there had been an extended outro, as it should go on for another minute or more.
