I visited and posted on that board when the movie was in theaters...
I only actively participated for a couple of weeks on that board while the movie was in theaters... It was so hostile, I started responding back to others in the same way. I didn't realize how mean that I had become... And then I got that IMDb warning message about being on the verge of being banned, and realized that I had to stop... There were many other (Pleasant) boards on IMDb that I loved to participate on, and I just couldn't lose my access to those...
Posting there was the worst experience on the internet that I have ever encountered, anyway... So, it was easy to just quit posting to the Ghostbusters board...
I did check back regularly to see what was happening there... Knowing that I wouldn't respond to anything there, I found that I didn't take issue with what people said, and it because just something interesting to watch (Much like a train/car wreck)... I was amazed how the trolls and haters just kept at it month after month with so much hate and nastiness...
If there was a place that I would call hell, that was it.
When I heard that IMDb was shutting the boards down, I became convinced that the Ghostbusters board, was part of the reason for that decision.
I didn't see the movie in the theaters...But I did pick it up on DVD. After all that hoopla, and fighting in "hell", I just had to see it anyway...
I saw the film expecting that it would be really bad, just like everyone said it would be...
It definitely had a lot of flaws, but It was not the end of the world... Like so many people on IMDb thought it would be.

Like so many people on IMDb thought it would be. The ones who you argued with are most likely those with multiple accounts. Think about it were the crazies with multiple accounts banned? No. They just used all those accounts to cause trouble and report those who tried to stop their fun. This happened on many boards on IMDB not just the Ghostbusters board. One movie board was like that and one day one troll with multiple accounts actually asked why all the posting stopped. Another troll replied the movie was winding down. I could almost picture the troll sitting at his computer all sad because he had to find another place to play. Lol

I remember once before the Ghostbusters 3 debacle even started I clicked on some thread in the Force Awakens page and saw all these people I never saw on any other thread arguing with each other. They seemed to know a lot about each other and their names. One person who came up a lot was Bobby. Anyway I saw these same people all over the Ghostbusters 3 page as thing's started moving along with that film, especially after Paul Feig made his announcement. I just wonder if it was all the same person because he/she and his/her "characters" seemed to be on 24 hours a day arguing. I could be wrong.

It's hard to be 100% sure what was really going on there... But, I don't think you are wrong... I frequented some less popular boards, ( "Ghost Towns" in some cases), and encountered a few posters where they would suddenly show up, and make posts to start a flame wars... You could view their posting history... Many would go to one board and make a post, and then they would go to another board and make a post, and then a third... It was quite obvious that they were not trying to genuinely discuss the threads on the board, they were just flamers trying to stir up conflict and chaos! But I do think, there were a few posters who would use one account to flame 20 boards, and then they would log in as another poster to flame 20 more boards. Sometimes they would come back and hit some of the same boards... Because, these multiple users were never online at the same time! Then there were a few posters that liked to make "Fake" posts... I remember one time, one poster said that " Carrie Fisher was NOT the daughter of Debbie Reynolds", but was the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor or something. Complete BS. All you had to do was look at the shape of Debbie's and Carrie's Eyes to know that they were related... This one particular poster really came up with some crazy fake posts! So, I have no doubt, that there were flamers, multiple user accounts, and some crazies, posting on the Ghostbusters board... If they were doing it on the "Ghost Town" boards, which had almost ZERO Traffic... Then all of them, would definitely find and target one of the most active and controversial boards in IMDb history... It gave them exactly what they wanted and they were looking for! The experience of participating on that board is something I never forget!... And I will always believe, it played a big part in the decision to shut down IMDb's message boards.

It was fishy. A lot of them were sexist pigs with multiple accounts that were out to take attack any Action movie with a female lead and I often saw them on the 'Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' boards having fights. One of the people I met on the IMDB Boards and regularly talk to on emails said one guy admitted to having 22 different accounts on another section and there wasn't anything anybody could do about him. I don't think they write on this forum 'cause it is better moderated than the old IMDB Boards and the Admin would pick up on them having multiple accounts but I have seen and had fights with a few of them on other boards so they are still around but can't get the attention they used to get. Who in the hell has time for 22 accounts? you'd be surprised, policidal. To be honest, this place is like a Disney live action movie from the 60's compared to the lifetime sinister place OIMDb used to be.

I just looked at that archived board on Moviechat.org. Looked like an ordinary IMDB board to me. Nothing too unusual.

That MooTown troll was tiresome. In the last few days of the IMDb he showed up on the RFS board claiming to have exposed ChucklesOToole.. Those of us who knew Chuckles for years knew that MooTown had the wrong guy, It was some 21 year-old dude on YouTube who probably had no idea he was being mistaken for someone else and was about to be harassed. Some of us tried to tell Moo that he had the wrong person, but he insisted we prove our claim by showing him Chuckles' pics or his real YouTube account. He started the same thread on several different boards which shows he was on a fishing expedition for info. I don't know what the issue was between them, but he apparently never got the answers he was looking for. Makes you wonder what kind of life does one have to waste his time on that sort of nonsense.

Lots of haters were there to hate on a perfectly fine movie and they posted on the wrong board by mistake?

Not just quirky some were disturbing. One troll said he killed his kids because it was such a bad movie. There is trolling and there is mental illness. This troll was sick in his head.

Yeah, I remember another one who said they disowned their teen aged child and kicked them out of the house, because they enjoyed the movie. Not funny at all.
