• E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - The part where he dies always gets to me. • Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Phoebe Cates, yummy! • The Thing - Damn, that scared the crap out of me! • Poltergeist - Another horror flick. • Rocky III - It was interesting to see Clubber Lang as an opponent.

I chose from your list: -- The Verdict -- The Thing -- The King of Comedy -- 48 Hrs
Others I liked from that year were: -- Blade Runner (Ridley Scott) - I cannot believe that is not an option on your list. Many people's pick for greatest sci-fi ever. -- Fanny and Alexander (Ingmar Bergman) - one of his more approachable films, so very popular -- Fitzcarraldo (Werner Herzog) - simply unique -- Gandhi (Richard Attenborough) - kinda safe like they did not want to offend anyone, but still impressive -- Koyaanisqatsi (Godfrey Reggio) -- Missing (Constantin Costa-Gavras) - a re-run of "Z" for American consumption -- Moonlighting (Jerzy Skolimowski) -- Poltergeist (Tobe Hooper)
