What is your opinion of this classic Spider-Man villain? Not specifically in regards to the TASM portrayal, but in general.
Say you're directing a Spidey movie and the studio wants you to use Lizard as the main villain. Do you embrace it or try to get them to change their minds?
Reason I ask is that I was looking through my collection of reprinted silver age Spidey comics and, having lots of time on my hands, started wondering which villains I would use in a Spidey movie series. Lizard, awesome as he is, was pretty low on my list. I could see making six Spidey movies without feeling the need to use him.

Very mixed feelings. I remember during the Raimi years, I was interested in seeing Curt Conners transform even if Dylan Baker was nothing close to whom I'm cast at the time. Once he was announced for the Andrew Garfield series, I was excited in the sense "oh hey they're doing Lizard after all".
Then I saw how they handled him. A lot of people hate the design but I think he looked alright. I think Ifans' voice was a solid fit for that design. I was more bothered by his completely unexpected 180 turn to not just villainy but Batman&Robin level supervillainy screaming "I'm going to make everyone into giant lizards! Bwahahaha!" that came out of nowhere. But now here we are eight years later, I think he can be made more interesting. In the comics, let's face it. Lizard is a middle tier villain at best. Same as Vulture. But look how cool they made Adrian Toomes in Spider-Man: Homecoming. If they did that with the Lizard, I'd be fine. But I don't know how many more Holland is game for playing Spider-Man.

I was the same way during the RAIMI era: I really wanted to see Lizard in Spiderman 4, but in retrospect I realize it was mainly out of pure curiousity. Not that he's a terrible villain or anything. I just think he's a really tough one to pull off and that's partly what drove my curiousity. I wanted to see how he'd work on screen. If Holland is around for the long haul (not likely) I'd much rather they redo the TASM era villains rather than the RAIMI ones, simply because the TASM, in my opinion, were completely botched.

A properly handled Lizard would be awesome in a movie.
1 small correction. There are no golden age SPIDEY comics. He was created in the silver age.

I was using the term "golden age" as a general one, to refer to the earliest era of Spidey comics, just as one might refer to the first nine seasons of The Simpsons as the Golden Age of that series. But alas, since Golden Age is in fact a term that refers specifically to the early days of comics circa 1930-50, I admit that was a mistake on my part. My OP has been amended.

Btw the collection I refer to is The Amazing Spiderman Omnibus Vol 1-2. They are two big ass books that feature the first 60 plus Spidey comics of the Lee/Ditko era.
Ive long wanted to add more Marvel omnibuses to my collection, but they're 100$ each at least. Pricey stuff for someone like me that isn't a hardcore collector.

I've always thought he'd match well with Kraven.
Lizard being a public frightening looking menace. Kraven being a hunter called in to kill him. Spider-Man attempting to stop Kraven from killing his friend and then also trying to defend himself from a reptile that wants to kill him.
