I've never been myself. But it was always a bucket list thing. If I were to dress up, I'd go as HAWKGUY with HELMET.
You been? If so... Who'd you go as?

Only the New York one once about 10 years ago. Didn't dress up (if I had a costume I wouldn't drag all the way from London!)

I've been a regular at SDCC since 2013. I think I've only missed two years during that time. I've also been to Wonder Con, Denver CC, Arizona CC, and a few others - all great fun. I have cosplayed twice, once as a random MP from BSG and another as a Marvel villain.

I would never in a billion years go to the big show, but I have many, many times gone to smaller cons.

Mark Ruffalo and Karen Gilliam were supposed to be at the local Con this year. The posters are still hung on walls, half torn off. It makes me think of what the apocalypse will be like- old reminders of normal society at every turn, somber and haunting.

It'd be cool to go one day for sure.
I hope there's a place for it but I'd go as Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf. Slap an H on my forehead for Hologram, find (scour) the shops for something that can be altered to pass for his uniform. Perhaps I could find a cloak and go as Obi Wan, or cover all of me with said cloak and be some intimidating druid or a headless monk from Doctor Who.

I went for many years. A dozen? 2001 -2013? 2014? Something like that It was so much fun

The cool thing about CCI is it is like a bunch of smaller cons Or it was until it got horrid crowded. It's like a game con, an anime con, a comic book con, a fantasy tv con... We went for years for the anime.

I went to a local one in Vancouver BC. Very simplistic. Basically sincere geeks and nerds and very non famous guests. There was a room playing Transformers the movie -I think it was empty. I talked to someone and she said she liked going to these things because so many socially dysfunctional people did their best to come out for it despite their fears. I had some art items on display in a gallery-the guy next to me did origami. A more jovial and less sarcastic Comic Book Guy type outside was displaying Godzilla models.
I like reading about early cons-when cosplay was new and Mark Hamill was promoting "The Star Wars" to a small crowd.

I briefly attended a panel where they discussed their strategy. They basically wanted to start making room for younger, more social media-savvy attendees to become regulars (like I pretty much am). There was the belief that as people got older, they didn't care about the cons as much... Based on what you're saying, that isn't true. In all of the time I've been to cons, both in the states and abroad, I've only ever been to two terrible ones. Most of them have been excellent, especially if you go with a regular crew.

Went to Wizard World in St. Louis a couple of times, they usually get a decent lineup of celebrities. Sebastian Stan was the big attraction one year. I went for James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter, and have a great picture of me with Charisma's cleavage. Had a lot of fun people watching, and saw some really good costumes. The highlight was probably three teenage girls dressed up like Leia, Rey, and Han(!). Got a kick out of that one for sure, but didn't want to come off as a creep and ask to get a picture of them.

No. Do you know we used to buy tickets for next year at Comic-con the year before? Hell, I bought those 2001 tickets in April by mail for the July show. Like $40. Then they removed it off site to a hotel which was a mess, but I played the game. Then they went total phone calls. My kid & I had ancient numbers-from 2001 obviously. My kid's friend got a new number because she signed up that year. She scored a closer spot & tickets while we were closed out, never getting into the electronic room to buy tickets. So you can be a smart ass all you want. Many older number holders noticed it. Ever watch Big Bang Theory? The rules at Comic-con became more & more crazy like those sort of people were running it. The whole idea of being "fair", letting people have a chance to get in who hadn't before.
