Due to the absence of Tom Wilkinson's Falcone, probably Ledger's Joker.

The Joker by far. I know it's an obvious choice but it's true.

I really wish that we got to see Leonardo DiCaprio as the Riddler. Damn.

I really wish that we got to see Leonardo DiCaprio as the Riddler. Damn. Was that actually planned at one point? Great idea. Problem is, it’s difficult to know what to do with the Riddler to keep him from being too close to the Joker. The makers of Batman: The Animated Series never were able to figure out how to use him.

I think it was thrown out there aloud during development, like I remember hearing a similar story that Philip Seymour Hoffman was approached to play Penguin (envisioned as a British arms dealer).

Ah I knew it! David Goyer said here in an interview that DiCaprio was a top choice for WB execs. For once I'd agree with them.

I could see it, hypothetically, but maybe not in Nolan-world. But then he made the Joker, Bane, et al. realistic, so maybe...?

In this world with computer hackers and white collar criminals, maybe Riddler could have been re-imagined as a cyber terrorist in the Nolan-verse? Perhaps they decided against that since it retrospectively sounds similar to Raoul Silva in Skyfall.

On the other hand, I thought Two-Face still came off as goofy, though Eckhart was great as pre-transformation Harvey Dent. I wish he would have been in Begins to make his downfall more affecting and effective.

I wish he would have been in Begins to make his downfall more affecting and effective. Perhaps he felt Batman Begins was overcrowded? Though now you mention it, he could have played Katie Holmes' boss (I forget the character's name) that wound up dead. Only obviously, don't kill him yet.

It's obviously the Joker, but I feel pretty bummed that nobody voted for Scarecrow. Scarecrow appears in more Batman movies than any other villain.
