Hi! IMDB transplant here. Love this board so far and eagerly awaiting many gems I've yet to see or rediscover due to the passion of Classic Film Lovers. I'll begin by saying Bette....Love her films, her persona, her unique style and above all her amazing films.
All About Eve. Excellent script. Excellent direction. Perfect Casting and Bette giving a performance so memorable and quotable that this is probably the one film of hers I revisit the most. A shout out to Dark Victory too.

Definitely a Bette fan. And let's be honest, "It's going to be a bumpy night" is one of the best lines ever delivered. I have All About Eve on tape and love it. Brilliant movie. Elizabeth of Essex was also very good. Have you seen the previews for The Feud about Bette and Joan Crawford? I think they miscast Susan Sarandon as Bette, but we'll see how it goes!
I'm a massive vintage movie silver screen fan here! I rarely watch "new" movies, but boy oh boy can I go on and on with the classics!

Love All about Eve. Great Bette performance .
Old Aquaintance - nice stretch from tomboy to sophisticated author. She plays off Miriam Hopkins beautifully. Actually something I never hear mentioned is her brilliant duets with other actresses- BD and Mary Astor in The Great Lie, BD and Joan in Baby Jane, BD and de Haviland in Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, BD and BD in Stolen Life and Dead Ringer...
T he Corn is Green - another favorite with no great duets except maybe Joan Lorring as the dreadful Bessie Watty. My favorite scenes are with Nigel Bruce as Bette forces herself to be conventionally feminine to win him over.
Little Foxes- a brilliant play with most of the bway cast intact. Davis took Tallulah Bankhead's role but Bette was subtle and cinematic in a part that lends itself to scenery chewing . Her dead cold tone as she delivers her key line to Herbert Marshall is spot on.

Wesley Crusher- haven't figured out how to respond directly to a post, or if that is even possible here.
Nice list and I was glad to see the love for Its Live I'm After. Bette and Leslie Howard really go to it.
I have never made friends with Pocket Full of Miracles. I much prefer the earlier version Lady for a day with May Robson. Robson was natural and handily managed the Pygmalion shift from street peddler to great lady. Bette on the other hand seemed mannered, and her diction if anything was better as Apple Annie.
Likewise I can't make friends with All this and Heaven too. I don't have a real good reason. Maybe it takes too long to get moving. I don't care much for Boyer. I just don't find the story very compelling.

I haven't figured out how to reply directly to a post either! Now Voyager was brilliant. That transformation was hard hitting and her evolution of character was so vibrant. Oh, another one is Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Spider, remember those dreadful TV programs she was in towards the end of her career, where she wore this long wig, and was on a motorcycle? I don't remember what it was, so it broke my heart because she's such a class act, and those gigs were so beneath her, and totally did not match.

Yes, merrida. But she wanted to work, and in those days those roles were all that was available to her. I did love her in her next to last film, however, a project very worthy of her amazing talent: The Whales of August, co-starring Lillian Gish, Joan Blondell, and Vincent Price. If you haven't seen that one, you really must. Joan Blondell died Christmas Day 1979 ... I think you mean Ann Sothern. Vincent Price was awesome! Great movie

I don't want to say it's my favorite, but I always think about her character from The Petrified Forest.

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane (1962) Burnt Offerings (1976) not because of her but Jezebel (1938) The Star (1952) In This Our Life (1942) The Letter (1940) The Old Maid (1939) The Private Lives Of Elizabeth And Essex (1939) The Virgin Queen (1955)

My favorite Davis films are as follows, and in no particular order--they're all great!
The Letter The Old Maid (the first time Bette played a character named Charlotte) The Little Foxes Jezebel Now, Voyager The Star The Catered Affair What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte The Nanny The Anniversary Death on the Nile
I'd also include "Strangers: the Story of a Mother and Daughter," which is a TV movie, co-starring Gena Rowlands. It won Bette a well deserved Emmy!

Btw, I'm not sure, but I think the only way to respond directly to a poster is to "quote" them first, which will appear at the head of your post, then respond. It's quite different from IMDb, but manageable, I think. I hope anyway. The best way I've found to reply to a specific message is to click on the "Gear" drop-down (on the far right) and then to click Reply. That way you can reply to several messages at once.

Wouldn't you have killed to be a fly on the wall in the dressing room they shared on the steamer?

I've only seen What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, but it's a fantastic film! The scene with Jane beating up Blanche, when she catches her trying to call for help, is one of the most scariest scenes in film.

Oh yeah, how could I forget Death on the Nile? Amazing. That was an exceptional flick. I can only imagine what that was like to film, however.
