New Madrid, New Mexico - when I lived in New Mexico, it was full of individualists and a little offbeat.
When I lived in the Chicago area, I enjoyed Long Grove Village, IL and Nashville, In.
When I lived in Nevada, I liked Boulder City, NV. and Blue Diamond, NV. (Blue Diamond was tiny - under 300 people, there was a nice plant nursery close to the town.)
I need to add South Bend and Mishawaka IN.

The small towns up along the Hudson in NY are great. Dog friendly, great sustainable restaurants, beautiful scenery and hiking. Quality stuff.

It was a cute little town with nice little shops when I lived in Vegas in 2001. We used to go to feed the catfish off the pier on Boulder Lake. It was a relief not to see slot machines all over the place. In Vegas, there were slot machines in the grocery stores, they were always occupied. I didn't like living in Vegas.

Leavenworth, Washington. The entire town center is modeled on a Bavarian village as part of a civic initiative that began in the 1960s. Has a really good annual Oktoberfest festival, but Bavarian-style restaurants and beer halls are there open year-round.
Also, Gig Harbor, Washington. A nice little boating-themed town on the Olympic Peninsula:

No place in particular, but I like the entire area just as a great place to drive around for day trips. You've got the Grand Coulee Dam, Dry Falls, Wenatchee, Rocky Reach Dam, Ohme Gardens, Yakima, the wine-growing region of the Columbia Valley, and lots of other stuff to check out. Oh, and the rolling hills of the Palouse, and Palouse Falls... yeah, lots of stuff over there.

Gatlinburg, TN, is certainly one of them. No time to go up in the Space Needle but just seeing it was cool. Pretty busy place but had that small town endearment and welcome which you can't refuse. We stopped for southern charmed fried shrimp before moving on.

We stopped for southern charmed fried shrimp before moving on. Wasn't Gatlinburg almost totally destroyed by a wildfire set by some punks? Has it made a good recovery?
