The Amityville Horror!
I so agree SassyB the Priest blessing the house scene
with the scary low voice saying loudly twice " get out ! " .
That's definitely one of many other disturbing scenes in this film
it's so freaky and creepy indeed .
is even more creepy and disturbing .

Not sure if I'm a disturbing film kind of person. Nonetheless, The Confession (1970). Yves Montand, directed by Costa Gavras. Z (1969) was also a tandem between Yves Montand and Costa Gavras but The Confession was next level horrifying. Torture, attempted brainwashing, false memories, starvation, sleep deprivation, a lot of yelling, guilt tripping. Basically a communist party member was arrested and held without trial for years while they used all sorts of techniques to coerce a confession out of him. Then the trial that follows.
Maybe Yves Montand just has a thing for playing martyrs who're gluttons for punishment. It really is horrifying though, based on a true story too. Set in Czechoslovakia. Really good.

Salo Maniac (1980) Death Wish II (uncut version; the rape scenes are very nasty) The Evil That Men Do Requiem For A Dream I Spit On Your Grave (both the original and the remake) Hostel Last House On The Left (1972) Interesting list

Maybe its because I have an absolute sick/tasteless sense of humor but Happiness was flat out hilarious to me. Phillip Seymour Hoffman prank phone calling that woman took me out. But yeah I can totally understand how that scene you described would be disturbing. Crazy film all around haha. Also I must ask, just how fucked up is Dogtooth? Its been on my watch list for quite some time now but I haven't mustered up the courage to watch it yet lol. I'm with you, Happiness was funny and I'm all about dark humor like that. That's why that scene creeped me out. He gave that talk to his son so matter of factly. Like he was explaining how to change a tire or something. Dogtooth isn't so much messed up other than subject matter. Keeping your family locked away from the world, how he treats them, incest and things like that. It's probably not as bad as what it's made out to be. I always think about "what if this really happened". lol Always makes it worse. It's more bizarre than anything. Not as bizarre as Visitor Q but still a strange story.
