I adored this show as a kid, and revisiting it now, I still find it an amusing (sometimes quite funny), cute and likable sitcom.
The main thing that's different for me is that, while I used to prefer Shirley, I now like Laverne a little bit more. Both actress are funny, but Shirley can be a little bitchy. Laverne clearly has a bigger heart and she is the more fun roommate.
Anybody else feel this way? Thoughts?

Didn't get to watch the show too much when I was a kid but once in a while I've watched reruns over the last few months and I actually like it quite a bit. Marshall and Williams were terrific physical comediennes. While Cindy was more often viewed as the prettier, cute girl next door type, I think Penny is physically the sexier one.

Laverne was always my favourite. I got more laughs out of her antics too. Shirley was a bit shrill and annoying at times.

That's interesting that you used the word "shrill" to describe Cindy Williams' character. In her review of "American Graffiti", Pauline Kael cited the "shrill vibes" in Cindy Williams' performance. But Laverne doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Shirley can be a bit critical/judgmental at times. Though they are both are funny.

Shrill seemed an appropriate label. I find Streisand shrill too. I like Shirley, I just prefer Laverne. Williams seems more forced in her approach to her humor and antics. Marshall was more of a natural and I wouldn't be surprised if Williams fed off Marshall for her shtick.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that my friend, Alan, went to some convention where both ladies were to attend and greet their fans, sign autographs, etc. Only Williams did not show up. He said that Penny Marshall was great, though.

She has a nice easy going flow.
