This reasoning I can accept. Not because gay actors are automatically better at playing gay roles but because they were trying to silence complaints. I don't agree with it but I get it. That’s like saying a woman isn’t automatically better at playing a woman than a man. A gay actor would play the character while a straight actor would try to be a gay character. You see the difference? Depends on the woman in question and the character in question, you want someone to play Princess Diana and your choices are Roseanne Barr or Robert Patterson, I dunno I think Patterson is going to play the character more believably than Roseanne will but that's just me.
There isn't one way to be gay, again you think Neil Patrick Harris could portray Ronnie Kray better than Tom Hardy just because NPH and Ronnie Kray share the same sexual orientation?
Being as similar to the character as possible is only a benefit when comparing actors of equal skill really, otherwise the more skilled actor should be able to act the part, it is their job after all.

Again, it’s pretty obvious what their reasoning is. If they replaced a lesbian actress with an actress who isn’t a lesbian, there would inevitably be a vocal online backlash to it. I’m not saying the backlash would be justified, but it shouldn’t be a surprise that they’re trying to avoid Twitter outrage. Hell, there was a backlash when Ruby Rose was cast in the role, because of the fact that she isn’t Jewish. Some people even apparently thought she wasn’t “gay enough”, whatever that means. Because she’s bi when the character is lesbian I guess. Ruby Rose isn’t bi. She identifies as a full on lesbian.

Because she’s bi when the character is lesbian I guess. I don't know where this came from but I never sar Ruby Rose identify as bisexual but as a lesbian, I think this is the thing people assumed she was bisexual and said that's not gay enough but Rose has claimed to have been out as a lesbian since her preteens. If I had to take a guess, it’s possible that some people have just assumed that she’s bi because a lot of Hollywood actresses have identified as such, so they think that Ruby Rose must be one of them, even though she’s never identified as anything other than a lesbian.

Actually she has identified as gender fluid, whatever the heck that means.

Actually she has identified as gender fluid, whatever the heck that means. All I can say for sure is that she identifies as someone who’s exclusively attracted to the female sex. In other words, she’s not bisexual.

Actually she has identified as gender fluid, whatever the heck that means. That's not to do with her sexual preference but her gender and what she identifies with, she identifies as both a male and a female at different times, which is different to females who only identify as male or vice versa.

Actually she has identified as gender fluid, whatever the heck that means. To me, it means she's a very confused, very troubled, mentally ill person.

Only if you are brain damaged, regardless of which gender she is identifying with at any time she's only attracted to women sexually, not men, which is what bisexual entails, a sexual attraction to both genders, this is the opposite.

Looks like instead of a recast, they'll be introducing a new character instead, well...I guess that lessens the workload with finding an actress.

Wouldn’t make sense because the character’s face is shown. But if they do race swap, why not just use her ex? Haven’t watched since a couple eps after Crisis, so don’t know if she’s still there, but she would be a good fit to shuffle over.

That’s not what gender fluid means. She’s said that she’s exclusively attracted to women, and as far as I know, she’s never been with a man. Gender fluid means that she sometimes feels like a man, and sometimes feels like a woman. It doesn’t mean she’s attracted to both genders.
