I just saw The Shootist, and I'm gonna have to add Ronny Howard. This movie is basically John Wayne's Unforgiven, but you have this Wally Cleaver bullshit performance from Howard stinking up the joint.
Oh yeah, I just remembered Una O'Conner. James Whale made some great movies, but unfortunately he was also fond of this lady's awful "comedy". I can't stand any scene with her in The Invisible Man or Bride of Frankenstein.

That is the one I had in mind.. It's so obvious, no one even has to mention Sophia Coppola! I don't think the movie is that great to begin with, but her awful performance certainly doesn't help.
I actually heard a rumor a while back that her role in that Movie actually almost went to Julia Roberts.

Paul Dano - There Will be Blood. Mary Steenburgen - BTTF III Wow, I think Paul's performance in TWBB is incredible, even today I am shocked by the fact that he did not receive an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor

Not a great film of course, but I'm sure we could have used someone else besides Keanu Reeves in Dracula. That's exactly the movie that came to my head. I would say that Kingdom of Heaven with a better lead would've made the film much better.

Nancy Allen in Blow Out. Easily one of the most annoying female performances I can think of. Good choice. That's a decent film, but Allen plays her role like some sort of cartoon-caricature of a bimbo. She was never much of an actress at best anyway. The fact that she was DePalma's wife readily explains what film career she had.

Stephen Lack in Scanners I don't think Lack is that bad and anyway, his character is supposed to be in a constant state of confusion. But yeah, it's not a good performance. Cronenberg has regretted casting Lack in many interviews. Oh man, that guy was really bad.

I hear she turned it down for Pretty Woman, which was probably ba smart move. Winona Ryder actually had the part, but couldn't do it because she got sick. Now that would have been a much better movie.

Malin Akerman just brings down Watchmen down by not even a little, she's gotten better over the years at drama to give her credit.

Casey Affleck, he was great on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford but he wasn’t supporting, so he should have been nominated for Best Actor

The kid that plays the bat boy, Bobby, in "The Natural" can barely say his lines. Yikes, he must have been some producer's son.

I'd hesitate to call it a great movie - there's possibly one buried in it somewhere - but Julianne Moore in Magnolia. That's the first thing I thought of too. I agree with your other comments as well.

Cronenberg has regretted casting Lack in many interviews. I have gotten used to seeing him now in this film, which I have viewed several times, but the first time I saw in VHS, I was like who is this awful actor. His bad performance stands out like a sore thumb, due to the better quality of talent he is surrounded with. He photographed well, it was when he opened his mouth his performance went pear shaped.

Maybe not a great film, but a very good one-- Peggy Sue Got Married. Good performances all around, with the exception of Nicolas Cage, who inexplicably chose to deliver his dialogue in some kind of cartoon voice. Even Turner herself has commented on Cage's weird turn in Peggy Sue. Uncle Francis just let him do what he wanted I think. He needed to be reigned in.

Winona Ryder was cast, but had to back out due to being burnt out allegedly. Coppola casting his daughter was a huge mistake. Even her direction is much better.

The fact that she was DePalma's wife readily explains what film career she had. Allen is god awful and dreadful in Blow Out and her stinking performance probably played a large part in why the film bombed. Travolta was fine and I recall the first time I saw it I was looking more forward to seeing Allen in her role. As soon as she opened her trap, with her shrill and uncultured articulation, I was like....is this for real or what! I thought it was a put on joke for a character arc. She kept the memento going for the whole movie. Surely De Palma could see his wife was ruining his movie. A perfect example of nepotism gone rancid.
The role was condescending to women, and playing a believable tart takes skill and a natural layer of nuance to give the character a soul and dignity. Allen failed at every level. Even a blow up sex doll would have given a better performance.

Gran Torino (2008)
it's only one of six movies I give a 10/10 and it's featuring one of my 'go to' things for bad acting. like when that kid is in the basement pounding on the door to let him out etc. so while it has some bad acting, it's not enough to damage the overall movie.
