How many times have I left these boards and admitted that the Globalist sons-of-bitches won? And after about a day and a half I always put on my gladiator armor and walk back into the arena again.
Myth: Gladiators were cut like statues. Fact: No, they weren't. The Romans learned that fat healed faster than muscle.
Myth: Two walk in, one walks out. Fact: They were too valuable to throw away like that, and most matches did not end in death.
Myth: They were adored by Roman society. Fact: This one is partially true, but they were adored like racehorses. A gladiator was a slave, and slaves were at the bottom rung of Roman society.
Myth: Females participated in the sport. Fact: This one is totally true, but they were few in number and even lower in social status than the male gladiators.
Myth: Spartacus was born into slavery. Fact: He was a Roman Army auxiliary who was convicted of some crime and sentenced to the arena.

There was a documentary The True Story of the Roman Arena. Prisoners had it worse for being subjected to violence. They also would stage bestiality acts as a punishment for the condemned.

It's beyond me how people could watch things like that for amusement. People used to take the kiddies to public executions. The all day stuff, like Impaling, Breaking on the Wheel, Hang, Drawn and Quartered. Pack a lunch, bring a blanket, make a day of it! Gobs of fun for all!!

It certainly has potential as a means of reviving the tourist trade once the Chinese flu has burned itself out.

Awful. You reminded me of one of my favorite movies. Whole families coming in by the wagonload to see your circus! A six-man hanging!

I remember reading once that if a gladiator was a mass of scars the Romans loved him all the more.

Emperor Septimius Severus banned female gladiators around year 200.

I would think it would be more like gobs of flesh and plenty of blood mixed up in the sandwiches. Ew...can't believe I said that.

Thanks, M. There were actually more types of gladiators than I thought.

"Forged in Fire" had the competing smiths make the weapons featured in this video.
Great series.
