So, have you seen any movies that you thought would be bad, but turned out great? This could be either movies you saw in theaters when they came out or movies you saw way later at home.

Great might be pushing it, but Howard the Duck. The first 20 minutes is atrocious but then it settles down to be an average, fun comedy flick.

The Chechahcos (1923). I was expecting a very boring film, but it's actually very good.

I remember the first time I saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure at someone's home. Their kid watched his TV show on a regular basis, so they planned to watch the movie when it showed up on cable. I resigned myself to watching it with them, only to discover that it was really a lot of fun, and also a clever homage to classic films. It turned out to be one of my favorite re-watchable films.

I thought Mad Max Fury Road was going to be awful. Obviously I was very wrong. Iron Man was kind of the same way.

I tend to like action movies no one else likes so I'll leave those out since it's normal for me.
Ones I thought would suck
Funny Farm
Speed Racer
The Rundown
Tangled

The trailer/previews for Midnight Run (1988) made it look like some silly-ass comedy. (The movie poster below doesn't help either.). So I skipped seeing this one in the theaters. A year later, my parents rented the video and lent it to me. The movie was great! I now own the DVD and have watched it dozens of times over the years with friends and family.

Great might be a stretch, but I expected the A- Team flick to be rubbish. I saw it at the drive-in on a double bill with Twilight Saga: Eclipse and ended up enjoying it so much that I have it on DVD.

I remember watching A-Team in theaters with my friends. It's just a dumb fun movie to me and I still to this day find it quite enjoyable.

Now I won't say this movie was great by any means but I was quite surprised by Angry Birds when I checked it out on Netflix after having it recommended to me by a friend. I thought the idea that an Angry Birds game was getting a movie was stupid and I had no intention of watching it. The movie was fine and I thought it was worth watching for free on Netflix.

Orginally thought Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation would be a drop in quality from Ghost Protocol because of last minute changes to the script and was basically rushed for a summer 2015 release to avoid SW The Force Awakens. All of that ended up making the best spy movie I've ever seen, just my opinion.
