I grew up in a working-class home, yet my parents managed to spoil the hell out of me. My dad was a carpenter, and my mom hardly worked. I had my first dog at age 10 (Chow Chow), and my first Shiba Inu at age 14, and I abided by no rules, lol.

I knew we were poor, but I didn't know how poor until I was much older. I understand now that we BARELY got by. We ate cheap food, but I like hotdogs and macaroni so I didn't mind. I learned later that some of our Christmas presents were from garage sales. I never had any clue as a kid. I was always happy on Christmas because there were always a lot of gifts.

I'm so proud to be from working-class, I even quit the second high school I went to due to it being rife with spoiled rich kids that I did not get along with, and finished my education by taking all the remaining exams on my own.

To a certain extent, yes. I didn't have very many "wants" (or accompanying tantrums), however, so it was mainly the luxury of not ever having to know hunger.

Yes, I made my mom tear the crust off my sandwiches and cut my spaghetti.

I was definitely not spoiled. Lol
Parents in the 50's and 60's generally did not spoil their children.
They fed us and clothed us.
It was different

That's what my dad did for me, in addition to basically everything else needed to be done for a family.

I actually thought the crust was the best part of the bread. I stopped eating bread at age 15 though, 'cause I don't like it. I like potatoes, but prefer rice.

Middle class. Not spoiled, but didn't really want to be. I never asked my parents to buy me "cool" clothes because the very idea of cool clothes seemed unimportant to me. When I got my driver's license every single penny that went into my rusty 89' Taurus wagon came out of my own pocket, and I never even wanted to argue about that.

I grew up middle class. We weren't poor by any means, but my classmates tended to come from wealthy families.
My parents didn't struggle or go without necessities for themselves, but pretty much the extras went to the kids.

Some ask if I was spoiled when they find out I grew up with 6 older brothers. "Oh you must have been the princess!" Right....Getting beat up & picked on by the two youngest because they were picked on...not fun. Not to mention how it was when I started dating & everyone in Tosa knew my brothers. The only "spoiled" thing I had was I didn't have to share my clothes or my bedroom(wouldn't quite seem right considering I'm female to all those males). I did have to share a bathroom with 4 brothers, two of whom thought they were John Travolta(seriously one would snap don't touch the hair!). Middle class, but my parents raised us to work-starting at 12 for my brothers, 14 for me. Didn't care what we did-mow neighbor's lawns/weed, shovel, etc. As long as we knew the meaning of where the money was coming from(and so less of a chance my brothers would get into trouble).
