Godzilla, King of the Monsters
The American reworking of the original film with Raymond Burr awkwardly edited into the film. Even so, they did treat the original story with respect, so it's watchable.
Godzilla vs. Monster Zero
Nick Adams as an astronaut. Bad special effects, but some decent kaiju fight scenes. And the nerd ends up saving the day.
War of the Gargantuas
Not a Godzilla film at all! What's it doing here? Russ Tamblyn stars. With only two gargantuas, it's not much of a war.
Destroy All Monsters
Aliens want to take over Earth by using the kaiju to destroy the major urban centers. Apparently, when there's trouble on Earth, it's faster to call in help from the moon base than deploy a team from Earth.
Godzilla vs. Megalon
The underground civilization of Seatopia, pissed off that the surface dwellers are unknowingly destroying their civilization, send a kaiju to destroy the surface world. Easier than just asking politely for them to stop, right? For some reason, they need an inventor's new robot to guide the kaiju, but the inventor manages to regain control and summon Godzilla to save the day. Arguably the worst kaiju fight scenes ever filmed. Also the only Godzilla film with no speaking roles for women. Jet Jaguar is pretty cool, though.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
Aliens decide to conquer the Earth by building a Godzilla robot. The original, however, is none to pleased by this deception. And when the robot is damaged, the aliens need a human scientist to repair their robot. Notable for the cutest kaiju aside from Minilla, who joins Godzilla to defeat Mechagodzilla.
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Not ones to give up after their first defeat, the aliens retrieve the bits and pieces of Mechagodzilla and enlist the aid of a mad scientist to develop a better control system for the robot. Curiously, Akihiko Hirata, who played Hideto Miyajima, the scientist who was coerced into assisting in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, plays Shinji Mafune, the mad scientist who eagerly aids the aliens in this film. Hirata also appeared as Daisuke Serizawa in the original Gojira and appeared in several other films from the franchise. This is Katsura's favorite Godzilla film.
Gojira
The original in Japanese with English subtitles. If you can stay up late enough to watch, it's worth your time. This is Miko's favorite Godzilla film.
