Yankees were playing the Chattanooga Lookouts in spring training in 1931. The Lookouts had a 19 year old girl pitcher, Jackie Mitchell, who bragged that she could strike out Babe Ruth on three pitches. And she did, although the 3rd was a called strike. Then the Iron Horse went down swinging on three straight. She walked Tony Lazzeri and was lifted. A couple days later, Kennesaw Landis voided her contract and forbade women from playing. The story also claims that Ruth had the umpire check the ball after strike two because he thought she was doctoring the ball. Sounds like the "Whammer" scene from The Natural.

And Lou Gehrig was one the most honest people to play the game. I can't see him doing that

I did not mean that Ruth or Gehrig used it as an excuse but other people like commentators and people who watched.

Odd how many time you hear about Ruth and Gehrig striking out together.
Eiji Sawamura in an exhibition in 1932, with Jimmie Foxx and Charlie Gehringer King Carl Hubbell in the 1934 AS Game, with Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin
Both Sawamura and Hubbell are famous. Jackie Mitchell, not as much

If any lady is able to break into the Major League, she would either be a pitcher or a man identified as a woman. Pitching is as much a mental game as a physical one. Pitcher can get batter out without overpowering him. Though, the pitcher would be at a disadvantage not having a knock out pitch if the pitcher can't throw a high octane fastball once in a while.
