I don't know where to begin. I'm white and nobody is paying my bills, either. I don't feel the need to vote for a cartoon character who bullies his way into the white house just because he says offensive shit that most people would get fired for saying. We all have issues with government, the thing about Trump supporters is that their 'problems' are nothing compared to the real issues facing oppressed minorities; and they live inside a bubble (made thicker by FoxNews and other echo chambers) that keeps them insulated from the real world. They make baseless assumptions such as everyone protesting is 'having their bills paid by the government.' They think their struggles are the same. "I don't get it. I'm white and I'm not a billionaire, what are these people complaining about?" As if you've ever walked down the street and wondered whether the police would execute you in front of a crowd because they were in a bad mood. Conservatives are such hypocrites. I remember the ad campaign against Obama in '08, labeling him a 'celebrity' with no experience. Trump is a tv game show host for Christ's sake. The evangelical party of 'family values' voted in a divorcee who bragged about sexual assault on tape and paid a porn star for sex while he was married to his current wife. Leading up to the 2016 election, Trump supporters were threatening ' Civil War' if he lost the election Trump himself was calling rigged; then they complained when Trump haters rioted after he won. They said they voted for Trump because Obama and the Democrats seemed to overlook an entire demographic; yet continue to support Trump, who to this day appeals purely to his hardcore base and nobody else-- he doesn't even try. They bitch about silent protests before football games and then ask why rioters don't find a way to peacefully protest when black men are murdered by police in the street. They control the Senate and the Oval Office yet somehow continue to play the underdog card. It's incredible, it really is. All of that must make it incredibly difficult for an "independent" voter like you to make a choice. Your sarcasm is noted, but that's exactly why it's not a difficult choice for me. Not being a member of a political party doesn't mean I don't have principles. Party aside, I don't see how any rational person could vote for Trump at this point.

And I'm just as befuddled as to why anyone sane would vote for Joe Biden. Here is a guy who, personality and moral issues put aside, has been working in Washington DC for over 40 years, yet likes to tell us how awful the system has been for so long. Ol' Joe likes to tell us that America has a "systemic racism" problem, well what has this dipshit done in 40 years to fix anything about it? If I'm not mistaken, during the initial primary debates, Biden was called out by Kamala Harris and Corey Booker for very questionable policies about race. AND this guy was Vice-president to the first African-American President for 8 years, yet we still have "systemic racism". Biden gave a speech last week where he basically said America is still a racist place, but if you elect him President, THIS TIME he might actually try to fix the problem. To quote Ace Ventura, "Alllllllll righty then" 👍 Trump ain't perfect by any stretch, but I'm more than willing to go with him over a career do nothing politician like Biden. At least in terms of jobs, Trump's administration has done more for African Americans in 4 years than what Obama and Biden did in 8.

If it were any other Republican candidate he was going against, I'd probably sit this election out. But Trump is far too dangerous, America can't afford another four years of his deliberate divisiveness, faulty policies and general inhumanity.

Fair enough, but if you're trying to avoid "deliberate divisiveness" and "faulty policies", then I'm not sure why you'd vote for Biden. If a black guy votes for Trump, then he ain't black. Someone said that recently, I know it wasn't me, I know it wasn't you, pretty sure it wasn't Trump.....I'm wondering, who would say such a divisive thing? 🤔

By the wording you'd be convinced it was Kim Jong-un, but you'd have to guess again.

I don't want to say the US political system is broken beyond repair, but without a massive overhaul there will never be a viable third party candidate for president. The existing parties have too much to lose, they'll do everything in their power to swallow and incorporate smaller movements within their own party without allowing the principles they stood for to flourish. Look what happened to Bernie Sanders.

Valid point, but Trump's comments were divisive towards a group of lunatics who were trying to burn down Washington DC, and Biden's comments were divisive towards an entire race of people, but yeah there are similarities between the two, I guess. Like I said, Trump has plenty of faults, but I take him over Biden in a heartbeat.

Back then he literally made up violent crime statistics on FoxNews and Bill O'Reilly (of all people) called him out for it. (Of course this was back when Fox didn't like Trump because they didn't think he could win. Now they're practically state media.) Trump's comments are dangerous to everyone. He wasn't talking to the protestors, he was talking about them. Every deranged tweet he makes sets a new precedent for the incivility of the White House.

I disagree with Millar often, but at least he's making an honest argument of his opinion. You're just stirring the pot, making nonsensical comments to agitate whatever conversation you're in. You're in the same category as DC Fan, a shit stirrer who isn't as dumb as he pretends to be, but isn't half as smart as he thinks he is.

It isn't apples and oranges at all. You're both focusing on the racial divide (which I also posted an example of Trump doing), while I'm talking about the nation as a whole. Trump is all about bullying people into submission, appealing to his base and looking like a tough guy instead of making a genuine attempt to be a part of any solution that would bring America together. Divisiveness defines his presidency, he was this way before he even took office.

But Black Lives Matter, these protestors and rioters, and the black advocates are no better. I think the Democrats are better. But half the country feels "doing things their way all the time" is not what they want. Many people who voted for Trump are racist. But many people voted for Trump as a middle finger to the Democrats and Republicans in charge. Remember, the Republicans didn't like him at first either.

I'm a centrist, I don't want the country going into hard left territory, either. And yes I know the Republican establishment didn't like Trump at first either. To be honest, they still don't. They're just too afraid to admit it publicly and would rather watch their party (and America with it) go up in flames than risk getting voted out of their respective office. It's a sad time in US history, there's just no way around it.

First of all, BLM is strangely silent whenever violence breaks out, when they sponser a protest whenever the latest black criminal gets killed --- justifiably or unjustifiably. Leads one to believe they would never condone violence publically. But on the inside they are cheering, "Yeah, score one for the good guys !!!" Secondly, the country is not going up in flames. This is America. It's history is fraught with controversy, adversary, and even violence. This is the way we get things done. It always has been. You and I will still be around talking about sports when this latest issue settles down --- waiting on the next issue.

You and I will still be around talking about sports when this latest issue settles down --- waiting on the next issue. There is literally nothing to suggest this is the truth. You just want to believe this is true. And yes US history is filled with social unrest, but I can't remember a sitting president inviting it, seemingly hoping for it the way Trump appears to be.
You and I as white guys have the luxury of waiting out the storm of civil unrest. Others don't, therein lies the problem and hence the protests you haven't begun to understand.
You know what concerns me? The election. If Trump wins, the same people who are rioting now will riot again, only worse. What will Trump do as a response? If Trump loses, will he cede power gracefully? Look at his track record. The man who said the election he ended up winning was rigged. The man who railed on witnesses to his own impeachment trial as it was happening. The man telling his followers in battleground states to ignore the social distancing guidelines his own administration endorsed and encouraged them to protest. Is it entirely unrealistic that should he lose the election, he tweets something along the lines of, "CORRUPT, RIGGED SYSTEM! REAL AMERICANS NEED TO TAKE BACK THE COUNTRY!!!" An ambiguous yet incredibly hostile statement to a base that was already prepared for 'Civil War' had he lost the first time. What happens then? You think a statehouse or two might get stormed by the guys with Molon Labe bumper stickers?
Nothing is off the table with this guy. Morally, there is no bottom, nothing he won't do to rile up his base and piss off the left, hoping for a radical response he can point to and place blame, much like you're doing with BLM. And where does the Republican Party go from here? The lesson they've learned is that this type of shit is what their constituents want. The heir to the party has to top this sideshow to remain relevant? Holy shit.
America needs to find a common ground before it's too late. A second Trump term is too much for the nation to bear, but the damage has already been done, socially and politically. Time will tell if we can dig ourselves out of this mess, but we need to start now.
