I agree. It is one of the coolest opening scenes.

I've never seen Blade, but Black Panther was insufferably bland and forgettable, so that's not very hard to believe.

The effects probably don't hold up as great but the action sequences are fun and Wesley Snipes feels perfect for the character. The sequel is good as well with a very solid supporting cast....the 3rd blade sucks tho.

Blade 1 was really good.
The only fault I have with it is that the Blood God thing is kind of lame (when you finally see it) but otherwise it had the right comic book attitude which MCU movies lack.

In fairness the opening to Blade and the rest of Blade is better than most superhero movies, but I don't think it's fair to call out Black Panther like that. Of the MCU films, Black Panther is one of the most streamlined, one of the least cluttered plots, one of the most entertaining to watch on its own without the baggage of having to worry how it fits into the larger MCU story. Black Panther is a great movie and deserved all the accolades it got, but I prefer Blade because vampires are cooler than all-purpose magic metal stuff.

Blade (1998) is better than Black Panther (2018) straight up.

Speaking of black superheros, any news on a new Spawn film? I actually don't mind the 90s film (Leguizamo was funny), but I would like to see a new version.

Really? He would have been a good choice 20, maybe 10 years ago, now I would say he's too old. I mean he's literally the same age as Michael Jai White, who played Spawn way back in the 90s...
