I've only watched the first few episodes of X Files and it didn't really grab me. I intend to go back to it and give it another shot, but I was hooked on Twin Peaks from the first episode. Season 1 is not that good, but if you don't care for the leads then you probably won't be interested in the rest. Mulder and Skully are 2 of my favorite TV show characters and they carry even the mediocre episodes. Season 3-Season 6 is great television imo. Shit, I hate when I hear I have to sit through a season or two to get to the juicy stuff, especially older shows when seasons were 20+ episodes. I didn't dislike the characters, although I figured they haven't sprouted their wings yet. She's very serious and he's a sexy weirdo and that's basically it for now.

I have very little interest in Twin Peaks. I would watch it if it was a movie, but I am not a big enough fan of David Lynch to watch a whole TV series from him. I am a big fan of The X-Files though. I even like many of the Robert Patrick episodes. That's what I said until I watched it. Fwiw, he doesn't go full David Lynch until the movie and then the 2017(?) revival. The original series is just a quirky murder mystery/soap opera satire. You can still tell it's David Lynch, but it could almost be Coens. I can imagine it being an influence on Fargo. And for a "whole" show, there's only 30 episodes.

He said he lost interest part way through season 2 and that definitely didn't sound promising. Funny enough, I did watch the movie and like it quite a bit. Make sense of that what you will.

The X-Files, by far. Great leads and story arches. Sure there were some bumps, but it had me hooked. Mystery, horror and humour seamlessly come together.
Twin Peaks I found to be an uninteresting melodrama in spite of its quirks and underlining mystery. Didn’t go beyond Season 1. Although, the music score did leave an impression.

Might take a minute The mystery in TP is the kind where it's less about scratching over clues and more just enjoying the characters. I rewatched the show and didn't lose anything knowing the outcome. The plot does become aimless once we find out who did it, though you're over halfway through at that point. That's reassuring about TXF. I'll probably go back to it sooner than later.

Twin Peaks is easily my all time favorite television series. I love the mystery, the atmosphere, the characters, the cinematic look, the weird genre hybrid and the fact that (for the time) it broke a lot of rules. The Return (2017) series just cemented how much I love it overall. Completely different and even more out there, breaking the rules again now that everyone else has caught up to the original series. So cinematic, original and singular. Pure Lynch. The final episode is among the best things he's done IMO. I've seen a few episodes of The X-Files and it was a decent enough show, that I may have enjoyed watching from beginning to end, but I can't see it surpassing Twin Peaks.

I prefer the one that featured David Duchovny. Twin Peaks is a once in a lifetime TV experience. The world it lives in is beautiful and ugly, always fascinating. I just binged the third season and I can't imagine seeing anything that good on TV again ever. David Lynch and Mark Frost are insane geniuses. The X-Files was a show I always loved, but felt it never realized its full potential. When it came back to TV recently, considering all the great TV we had since it first ended, I was ready for some epic episodes and revelations. Instead, it seemed to rely on it's fanatical fanbase and their devotion and delivered one too many lame reveals and cutsey episodes. Even Gillian Anderson seemed ticked, she didn't want to continue this time, like Duchovny last time, and bailed, so the revival died.

I hope Lynch will come back to TV soon, either with a 4th Season or a New TV Series.

Personally I like Twin Peaks better as it`s the more unique and groundbreaking TV Series I think, it has great atmosphere and a really special feel to it. It has superb directing (especially the Lynch directed ones) and really nice and artistic looking pictures and cinematography. The X-Files on the other Hand has also some good standout Episodes and interesting story, but overall it`s too inconsistent for me and too much hit and miss.

I've watched more episodes from this show than Twin Peaks, and I find the show more thrilling. Nothing against Twin Peaks.
