Gave Joker a re watch on HBO this past week and of course still really dug it but I didn't like how Todd Phillips portrayed Thomas Wayne (Bruce Wayne/Batman's dad).
He made him out to be a selfish/arrogant /prick.
In Batman Begins (for example) he was such a kind caring philanthropist who cared about the people of Gotham.
I don't know it just rubbed me the wrong way. But I still find the film to riveting and give it a solid 8/10

Everyone in the movie is an asshole except for Sophie and Gary. Oh, and I guess Bruce also, though he’s kind of just weird.

In Batman Begins (for example) he was such a kind caring philanthropist who cared about the people of Gotham. That's because in the story they wanted to suggest Bruce Wayne needed his dad or some other soft mentor.
It's part of the strategy not to show strong independent white males. The Thomas Wayne of that story was a Bill Gates type. The Thomas Wayne of the Joker is meant to be a Trump surrogate.

Wouldn't it be because it was from Joker's perspective?

Watching Joker for the 1st time at the moment. Just got to the part where he's dancing to Rock n Roll part 2. People saying that they shouldn't have used the song. I think it fits especially with what happened to him as a kid and what Gary Glitter did.

Meh. He made some gross comments on the news but it's easy to understand why he treated Arthur the way he did.

Batman Begins wasn't the first or last portrayal of the character. In the original comics, when faced with an armed mugger who just wants a necklace, Thomas attempted to attack the mugger and got himself and his wife killed while endangering his child. It's suggested later he was once a masked vigilante himself. In an alternate timeline where Bruce died instead, Thomas is the one who became Batman only he murders his enemies. This would all seem to suggest he'd be tough on crime, have little empathy for the root causes, and probably act the same way he does in the film in regards to a guy who groped his son as well as the killer of three of his employees.

Are the Thomas Wayne Batman comics good? Or the animated movie for that matter? Flashpoint, right?

It's more like if the Punisher became Batman because he was already an adult for him to learn to play the role.

As is the animated movie. I like alternate timeline stories in general.

Justice League Unlimited had several good 2 parters about time travel and alternate timelines. Animated Batman did as well. I'll check out Flashpoint.
