Stroheim added the "von" upon emigrating from Vienna to feign an upper-crust background. Wilder, who also came from Vienna, used to laugh about Stroheim's pronounced lower-class accent.

The Christian Licorice Store (1971) directed by James Frawley, Appearing in the film is Jean Renoir filmed with his wife in their Hollywood home, the scene was apparently mostly improvised. Also James Frawley directed another cast member who was a director Monte Hellman... Typical oddity of its era, was a must see for me for the Pleasant Street acoustic from Tim Buckley...
