I liked it but not loved it. Apparently this is a remake of a 60s film which I’ve yet to see.

I remember liking the stylistic choices for the individual ghosts. I don't remember much else tho.

Ugh. A real snooze-fest with a lot of gratuitous violence/gore. The only good thing about it is Tony Shalhoub. Pass.

I remember seeing this a bunch on HBO back in the day. Shalhoub was solid and F. Murray Abraham brought some class. Matthew Lillard, some other sleazy dude, and Shannom Elizabeth brought the youth to the teen aimed pop horror of it, and Lillard especially played it was over the top and hammy, which matched everything else that was going on.
The movie is absolutely full of style. It's a style I find incredibly shallow, annoying, and obnoxious like many early 2000s mainstream horror movies, particularly those produced by Dark Castle Entertainment. They had a real signature aesthetic, so I have to give them credit for that. I just always hated it.

Honestly it’s not a bad film. It felt like they were just trying to make a fun movie and I think they succeeded. I knew it was a remake, but I’d never seen the original before the remake so I thought the glasses were something they did for the remake. Had no idea it was in the original as well until I watched it. Honestly it’d be kinda odd to even compare the 2 movies since they feel so vastly different.
7/10 from mez

I liked it but not loved it. Apparently this is a remake of a 60s film which I’ve yet to see. I really wouldn't compare the two movies, their only similarities are a group of people are in a house with different ghosts that you can see with special glasses. That's really the only thing the two movies have in common, lol. It's like comparing the "House of Wax" remake, "The Haunting" remake, "House on Haunted Hill" remake and the "Thir13en Ghosts" remakes with the original films. There's little to no comparison between 1950's/1960's original films with 1999's/2000's remakes. Similar concepts but very different plots and twists (especially the endings). I actually like all of the films but for very opposite reasons. I like watching most movies just to have fun with it. The similarities and differences not even with just remakes; but with old and new films as well. All classic movies have some excellent stories while new good movies have the action and graphics. To the OP, "Thir13en Ghosts" was a fun movie in my opinion. It's not perfect, it's over-the-top, it's jump scares and aesthetically incorrect all around. Still, it's entertaining when you look over the flaws. I like most of the cast (the kid bothered me the most lol). Actor Matthew Lillard was his eccentric crazy self, Actress Embeth Davidtz is always suspense candy and even actress Shannon Elizabeth wasn't horrible in it. The films atmosphere with the glass house was a real set and was achieved to not cast the director's reflection in nearly every shot (though, I did catch one goof of the director in a shot all on my own). My favorite thing about the film is the ghosts. Two or three are kind of pathetic, like the Torso Ghost (what's he going to do to you seriously, lol). But The Jackal ghost especially was pretty awesome. I didn't understand the opening truck shooting out blood to attract a ghost, but, I can look past that lol. I also like how on the DVD they included a special feature that told the backstory to each ghost and how horrifying each character lived and died. Of course the Jackal had one of the worst backstories. Just my opinion of this little now-old film. I miss horror movies being Rated-R only.
