Such an underrated classic.
Anyone agrees?
The GROSS OUT factor is a 10.

David Cronenberg has done better, but for his first movie that was done on a poverty budget it was fairly good. Yeah I agree that the gross out factor was high, as well as some other disturbing content.

Have not seen it for many years, but ended up with a 6/10 rating, and remember that it featured some very chilling and creepy scenes, which I think is quite impressive, so early on and how Cronenberg managed to do so with probably a very small budget as well. Need to give it a re-watch and also check up on Rabid, as I am not sure if I have seen that one, which is kind of a bummer, as I have had it in my movie collection for over 10 years now.

Good and sleazy, the whole thing looks like a '70s porn set that needs an exterminator to show up (and not tear off his clothes). Pretty primitive by Cronenberg's standards, but highly entertaining. 7/10

The film has always been memorable in my mind as one of Cronenberg's earlier efforts. I will need to re-vist as has been a while since I viewed and if I recall, it also has a kind of satiric quality about it too, being set in a modern apartment block with taking jabs at consumerism and commercialism and looking for a distorted image of a superfical utopia. The film is quite subversive and daring too in presentation, which does make it potent in some respects. A hard one to shake off. Watched Rabid the other day and have seen before. Both these films can be seen on good hd transfers on you tube. Rabid is ok, and has some cheesy and bloody schlock fun, but it is really underdeveloped story wise. The science isn't explained enough regarding Rose's skin graft and the mutating affect it had on her which is pretty much dismissed. It is basically Shivers in a more expansive and cold setting minus the sex craved manics, just violence crazed maniacs. The ending of Rabid is tragic , Cronenberg shows visual flair, but the lead actor is dullsville. Marilyn Chambers looks like she needs a big hug and to be loved, (well she was a top porn star and she has no qualms about getting her top off a few times), and yet her acting is passable, but she does sound too much like a little girl making a porn movie. Fun porn movie sequence too which is predictable as well. Both her and her douchy insipid bf also over-act into hysterics near the end, at least it injected some life into him, which made me laugh more, rather than feel pity and sadness for their predicament as he spends the entire movie trying to track her down. Loved the jack-hammer sequence with the rabid dudes attacking a vehicle and its occupants. The Canadians made some interesting and original horror films for its time in the 70's and early 80's and some of my favorite ones from this era.

Well it is certainly an interesting idea and rather creepy. Can't say I rush to rewatch it. I like the Brood best of his tax credit films but even that I do not seek to rewatch too often given how gross it is.

Horrifically good. I haven't seen it since IFC used to show it. It makes your stomach feel weird and queasey and almost ache.
Can you imagine gaving one of those things in your gut? Looked so painful and believe me i'm no stranger to debilitating, gassy gut aches ahurk!
What an interesting idea when it comes to da ending. Instead of a world overrun with zombies or kill happy maniacs da world ends in a writhing, sweaty rapey orgy. Da entire world population will eventually be infected by da parasites and turned into raging nymphomaniacs dat will literally fuck until complete exhaustion and eventually death.

The Criterion DVD/blu-ray release is worth getting.
