For instance during the 1950s there were a slew of "Outerspace invader" types films that were basically an allegory for the Red Scare/communism (Invasion of the Body Snatchers comes to mind)

Spartacus (1960) had a pro-civil rights message.
I remember hearing somewhere that On the Waterfront (1954) was supposed to be Kazan's "take that" to his critics over him participating in the HUAC hearings.

High Noon (1952) was written in response to the Hollywood blacklisting that was occurring at the time.

Massacre at Central High is like Animal Farm set in a high school.
A lot of movies in the 00s had themes of the War on Terror, but especially The Dark Knight.

High Noon (1952) was written in response to the Hollywood blacklisting that was occurring at the time. And the screenwriter, Carl Foreman, was blacklisted shortly thereafter.

The Entertainer is about the decline of British power in the world. The old act just doesn't work anymore.

How is that a political allegory? It was a straightforward adaptation of the same book into Woodward and Bernstein's investigation into Watergate. It strikes me as no different than a biopic.

Jospeh Heller often said that Catch-22 was about the Cold War, not WW2.

MASH while set during the Korean War was a commentary on the Vietnam War.
