Hockey goalie by a longshot. You dont win games if you cant keep the puck out of your own net. The NHL has had teams with elite defenses win just like the NFL. The New Jersey Devils built a dynasty using that formula. |

This was discussed in another post - Brodeur is top 10 all time for sure, but Roy and Hasek CARRIED their teams multiple times. |

I'm a little disappointed NBA PG has thus far been disrespected.
It's the definitive #2 on the list behind NHL Goalie.
The PG - is the floor general - runs the show - needs to have a good assist to turnover ratio, play bulldog defense and also in today's game be asked to score just a little bit.
Without an above average PG - your team is doomed.
It falls slightly below NHL Goalie in terms of importance......
With pitchers a distant 3rd - and NFL QBs really not even in the same convo folks.

You can win with an average QB if you have an elite defense, just as you can win with an average goaltender. Some of the examples in this thread don't tell the whole story. Foles was an average QB, but he played at an elite level when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. If he played poorly, they wouldn't have won. He was absolutely the most important player for them in that game. Let's put it this way. In the history of either sport, how many teams were built around their QB as compared to the goaltender? |
