There you go Rey, Frank and Klaw - You've got hi224 on your side - make you feel better now? He kinda cancels out northern, who is among the most minimally exceptional of us all. It's like you said, nobody is saying goaltending isn't important. But it's not on the level of NFL QB. Pointing out poor performances on championship teams is glossing over the fact that if the QB played that poorly as frequently as an NHL goalie, his team would never get to the championship round in the first place.
Frogs is the best in the business at playing the contrarian, his arguments are a hoot. But northern honestly believes he knows more about hockey than the executives in the NHL. Goalies are so important that nobody ever risks taking them #1, yet elite goalie play is so common that 'every champion in the last 40 years' has had it.

Call me when an NFL team pulls a fucking popcorn vendor who helps out with the practice squad out of the stands to play QB and he wins the game.

You mean pretty much what the Patriots will attempt to do this year with Jarrett Stidham?

Nice strawman there. Goalies play defence, QBs play offence so the two positions have different goals. To win a title in hockey it takes 16 wins, cant say the same for football so to even make a final youre goalie must stand out and perform. A goalie's job is reactionary. A QB has to go out and execute a game plan every week for his team to be competitive. A title takes 16 wins, but you can shit the bed 3 times out of 7 for four consecutive rounds and still win the title. Can't say that for football. When are you going to acknowledge the winning goalie is the Finals last year was absolutely terrible in games 3 and 6 and the Blues won anyway? Go look up the game summaries if you have to.
I'll ask you since frogs won't answer. Why are QBs consistently taken first in their respective drafts while goalies have been taken #1 only twice in the last 20 years? What do you know about hockey that every NHL GM doesn't?
The reason so few goalies are taken number one in the draft is because so few of them are that good at that young age as its a difficult and elite position that has to be learned hence the most important one in all of North American sports.

Based on the guys in this thread who are choosing quarterbacks, and the ones who are choosing goalies......
I gotta go with goalie, without a doubt.
Give them Hell, frogs......Bob Griese sucked donkey balls.

I would think that a Chargers fan, long time former team of the perpetually underachieving Philip Rivers, would recognize the value of an NFL quarterback.

True, but as a fan of the Boston Bruins, I've also come to realize how important having the right goalie is to winning a championship. It took a long time, but Tim Thomas was ultimately the right guy to get it done. As a Flyers fan, I'm sure how well aware you are that a goalie is pretty friggin important. Really, both positions are vital to winning a title, as are all positions in sports really. And stop dissing Phillip Rivers. What'd he ever do to you?

The reason so few goalies are taken number one in the draft is because so few of them are that good at that young age as its a difficult and elite position that has to be learned hence the most important one in all of North American sports. lol, great stuff. "They don't take the most important position because he needs to learn how to be great." The most important position in sports isn't worth the investment?! Few QBs are great at a young age. Ever see how many picks Peyton Manning threw in his rookie season? Still, you take the franchise QB every time because he alone can make you a contender. That's why it's worth the investment even if he isn't a sure thing. NFL teams gamble their #1 pick on QBs more often than not while goalies are never taken #1, but goalies are more important.
How long did it take the zamboni driver to be great? Think a practice squad grounds crew member could step into an NFL game and play QB well enough to win? Do you think that could ever happen? Do you really think Binnington was elite in games 3 and 6 of the 2019 Stanley Cup? He lost almost half his games in the championship round alone. What an elite performance.
Your argument gets dumber by the post, at this point I'll assume you're fucking with us like Frogs.

Of course they’re important. And I’m well aware that the Flyers haven’t had or kept a good goalie since Hextall. All that said, QB is much more important. A goalie basically just has to be skilled. A QB has to be skilled, memorize a playbook, and successfully run an offense while 300 pound linemen who run a 4.3 40 are trying to murder him.

Its obvious to me you're retarded so I'm not wasting my time on you any further. Your argument makes so much sense though. Why draft the most important position in sports when you can let someone else do it instead? Then instead of locking him in long term and building around him, you can roll the dice that he doesn't stay with that team or go somewhere else in free agency. You're better off taking role players and picking up your franchise player late in the draft. You've revolutionized sports here.
I wonder how long it took you to convince yourself this argument had any merit whatsoever.

Here's a way of looking at it.
If a quarterback has a bad game, there's still a pretty good chance his team can win the game. If a goalie has a bad game, it's probably a lot harder for that team to pull off a victory.
It's goalies, of course.
Game over, mic drop.

And in football, whether it's regular season or post season, that one game is much more crucial.

That's easy: in Victoria it's whoever is President of the Collingwood Football Club, currently Eddie MaGuire In Australia it's the national test cricket captain currently Tim Paine.
