Thought we already had one in 2009 (made for TV).

Never saw it, but I heard the 09 one was closer to the story like the director claims this one is going to be.

I hear it could be a prequel.

You know Hollywood. One Stephen King remake is successful, so now they have to drain the well.

Did they ever stop making Children of the Corn movies? I feel like there are 179 sequels and remakes and whatevers.
Must be very easy to acquire those rights.

I should have been more clear as to why the movie felt mean spirited. It felt like no one liked being in it, I have a feeling a lot of the cast didn’t like each other. Just something felt off about the movie.

No, they never have stopped making more sequels. A few years back I finally read the short story and then binged on all the movies, including the TV movie remake, ending with Children of the Corn: Genesis (2011). At the time I thought surely that would be it, the well has been drained. But no, along came Children of the Corn: Runaway (2018). I think it's a case of having to keep making them or relinquish the rights. That damned corn was never that fascinating that it needed all these sequels. Just when you think it's over...they pull you back in!

The couple loathed eachother.

I have seen them up to Children of the Corn 777. None of them are really good, but the 1984 original has some nice atmosphere, locations and scares, despite also being really badly acted and often unintentionally hilarious. The sequels are perfectly watchable in their own cheapskate way up to Children of the Corn IV (which is very cheap but kinda spooky), after that (5-7) there is sharp decline in quality as well as entertainment value.
2009 made for TV version was pretty much unwatchable, though I did somehow manage to finish it without fastforwarding. It has some insanely stupid changes to King's original story (which is excellent), flashbacks to some war (I forget which) being the worst offenders. No idea what they were doing in the story. Also I really disliked both leading actors and their endless quarreling.

Is there a kernel of truth to this story? [Saves politicidal the trouble by booing self.]

Now there's a talked about horror film series I had no interest in. Can't remember the movie at all. It should be about kids who turn into corn monsters.

Everything I read about this says it's a prequel not remake. The stills don't look great and suggest they are going for a creepy little girl movie. But it has a decent director/writer, so I'll try to be optimistic. I grew up on a farm with strict religious fundie parents and was obsessed with Children of the Corn as a teenager. My folks thought I was a devil worshiper because I kept making corn related props for Halloween, cob crosses, creepy dolls out of husks, scarecrow costume. That was during the satanic panic of the 80s
