Did they ever stop making Children of the Corn movies? I feel like there are 179 sequels and remakes and whatevers. Must be very easy to acquire those rights. It's easy to acquire the rights to any King property. Just write a check. The guys a money hungry whore. I don't think that's really fair. The 'dollar baby' thing he does is very cool and generous and I think proves he's not money hungry. But acquiring rights to his bigger name properties isn't easy because big studios already own them. Children of the Corn either keeps being made by the same prodcuer or company that keeps beating this dead horse that nobody cared for to begin with, or it's just easy enough for anybody snatch them up because they don't have a continuous ownership. Either way, there are a lot of shitty movies called 'Children of Corn: Something' that nobody cares about.

Now there's a talked about horror film series I had no interest in. Can't remember the movie at all. It should be about kids who turn into corn monsters. Kids who walk behind the rows? I wonder if the monster/spirit/whatever the kids worshiped looked like a giant gopher? Or like one of these perhaps? That corncob thing is pretty terrifying.

A prequel, leading up to the events of the first crappy film. Gone woke too by the look of it, using females as the leads. She who walks behind the rows perhaps?

It focused on Ruth who became Pregnant in the 2009 tv version. Trying to start a new life away from the cult. The reviews weren't kind... Guess I'll just stick with parts 3-6 and "Genesis", and the 2009 version. (Never really cared for the first two films.)

Never seen any others apart from the first, which was a chore to sit through the first time and a chore on a couple of revisits. Perhaps one of the worst horror films I have ever seen based on a King story and one of the worst horror films of the 80's. Fair enough. The 1984 film is too off putting to match the brooding and creepy atmosphere of the short story for my liking. The 2009 film better represents it. The couple loathed eachother and weren't on a fun road trip for starters... The other sequels really embrace the ludicrous plot and give alot of violence in spades. Some of the sequels are out there... Not amazing films by any means. But I'm a fan of how over the top they are. And how they managed to get some famous faces before they became more well known.

Having finally watched "Runaway" I can say it was truly awful... even by the franchise's standards. This was just made to keep the copyright going.
As much as I enjoy the other entries in a campy way... This series has been running on fumes. Yet another reboot feels like a joke.
It's time to focus on another series or movie...

As much as I enjoy the other entries in a campy way... This series has been running on fumes. Yet another reboot feels like a joke. It's time to focus on another series or movie... A while back I watched all of the movies in the series for no good reason. Clearly, the series is kind of a joke, and has been for quite a while, but I didn't think 'Runaway' was all that much worse than others in the series. It was made by a competent director working from a nothing budget, but with a not-so-terrible cast. It's dull, and stupid, and just kinda bland, but not aggressively, infuriatingly bad. It's just sorta forgettable. The approach to make it with an overly serious tone was strange. You'd think these movies would have a sense of humor about how beaten into the ground the title is by this point. I actually didn't think the remake was all that bad. Again, it's not legitimately good, but it had its merits. It was a closer to the original story and kept the cynicism of the source entirely intact. And while it was cheap and not particularly well made (it was made in the 2000s, felt like the 90s, but I think set in the 70s...?), it was way darker and more violent than I'd expect a TV movie to be. Also not great, but not as terrible as I'd been lead to believe. But this whole series has been like this. Usually not good enough to be good, and often not bad enough to be fun. Urban Harvest was fun in that ultra-dumb way, and the others have had their moments, but there hasn't been one good movie that bears the name Children of the Corn.

I wish they wouldn't... It's a fine slice of cheesy 80s horror... Leave it alone.

"We went back to the story and free-associated from there."
I.e., "we skimmed through the story, decided we could do it better, and 'free-associated' (catch the artsy-fartsy euphemism) a bunch of crap to tack onto the original tale. Resultant effort will be a cinematic turd that has virtually nothing to do with King's story except for the title."
That will make it eerily similar to 95% of the cinematic turds that get cranked out under King's name. Pass.

Well, that narration was laughably dumb, and the rest didn't do anything for me. This sure hasn't convinced me of a Shudder subscription anytime soon.

I was wondering if that narration was from the '84 trailer or something. It was so silly and old fashioned. It also hit pretty much of every trailer cliché you can think of. It also looks like it's been made by a bunch of amateurs with subpar equipment who happened to have access to some good locations. In summation; it looks like it will fit right in with all of the other Children of the Corn movies. But Shudder is pretty good in general.

I thought it was the narration taken from the '84 trailer as well, but I watched that and...doesn't sound like it. With the way the production looks, it is par for the course for these and it's odd that none of the bigger studios have taken advantage of the franchise at this point. I was more or less being tongue-in-cheek about the Shudder comment. If one of the major franchises that I actually like ends up going there, I will consider it.

Not surprised at all... I thought the trailer looked awful.

Not surprised at all... I thought the trailer looked awful. I was shocked. Who could've guessed that that yet another unrelated movie in this terrible series wouldn't be good? Certainly none of us predicted that.
