Oakland had four picks of the first 36 in the 1990 Draft. Todd Van Poppel being the most famous but there was Kirk Dressendorfer, Don Peters, and Dave Zancarano. Van Poppel was the only HS arm. This was billed as the bonanza of all times. Oakland had a monster team at the plate, Canseco, Weiss, McGwire all in their prime and Lansford, Steinbach, Baines with lots of good years left. But all five starters were over 30 and Eckersley was 35. Their combined record, 43-55. peters and Zambrano never made the majors, Dressendorfer started 7 games and Van Poppel was a legendary bust. The best laid plans...
Mets had the similar situation with Paul Wilson, Bill Pulsipher and Jason Isringhausen. "Generation K". Izzy did become a good closer, but not with the Mets

This right here - was the greatest pitching staff ever assembled in the history of baseball going back to the 1700s.
The REAL '4 Aces'. We even had Fat Joe anchoring the rotation as the 5th Starter.
