While the movie came out 35 years ago in May in the U.S., today it came out 35 years ago in the U.K. Anyway, many consider "A View to a Kill" one of the worst James Bond movies in general and the worst of Roger Moore's tenure as Bond. How do you all feel about "A View to a Kill"? Has time been kind to it? Can you see the strengths of the movie in addition to the weaknesses?
This may sound crazy, but I actually like the movie even though I probably shouldn't. I would venture to say it's better than other Roger Moore Bond movies like "Live and Let Die", "The Man With The Golden Gun", and "Octopussy". It's hard to put my finger on why I like it exactly, but I just find it to be an entertaining Bond movie even though Moore is too old, Roberts is a weak Bond Girl, obvious stunt doubles for Moore, etc. The action scenes are still entertaining and Walken and Jones are a delightfully odd couple. So I think it's certainly not one of Moore's finest, but not one of his worst either even though many say otherwise.
Maltin Movie Guide Review:
A View to a Kill (1985) - 2 out of 4 stars
"One of the weakest James Bond movies saddles 007 with a bland villain (Walken, who wants to destroy California's lucrative Silicon Valley), a monotonous villainess (Jones), and a wimpy leading lady (Roberts). And it goes on forever. Only some spectacular stunt sequences keep it alive. (Oh, yes, there's also a gorgeous Russian spy--played by Fiona Fullerton--who disappears too soon.) Moore's final appearance as 007."
Fun video to watch:

Wildly mediocre but it's not the worst Roger Moore entry. Tanya Roberts is terrible but Christopher Walken is a highlight as Max Zorin.

Great theme song. Don't remember Patrick Macnee having much to do.

I’ll concur with Maltin, 5/10.
I like the end, though.

This was the first Bond film I saw on the big screen and I enjoyed it. I certainly don't consider it the worst of Moores tenure, that accolade as far as I'm concerned is 'For Your Eyes Only', and imo the worst overall is 'Die Another Day'.

Superb soundtrack that outclasses all the rest. Christopher Walken and Grace Jones deliver great performances and its final act is delightfully barmy. Gets a bit bogged down and drags during its mid-section. Overall, not the best Roger Moore Bond flick but not the worst either.
