I put OT to avoid the "Is chess a sport" question (it's a contest, not a sport)
Who do you invertebrates think? Robert James Fischer v. the field? Or are y'all devotees of checkers?
Yeah, I'm this bored...

There’s probably only 3 chess players I could name. Fischer, Kasparov, and Karpov. Four if you include that IBM thing, Deep Blue? I’m sure there’s some 12 year old prodigy somewhere that could wipe the floor with all of them.

Watching YouTube videos, playing online etc. I'm not starting a new career as a Grandmaster, but now I can beat the computer at Chess.com past Level 1!!
I came across the IQ's of famous players. Fischer was a weak 160!. Judit Polger was at 170, Kasparov 190, current champ Magnus Carllson near 200. No wonder I suck

BTW, It's Bobby Fischer. The entire Soviet chess machine was dedicated to not just beat Fischer but humiliate him. And he whupped Spassky. Enough to where Spassky stood up an applauded after he lost the key game.
Too bad Fischer became such a detestable person

I know the rules of chess and how the pieces move but I don’t know strategy. What made Fisher great? Could he see the board like 20 steps ahead? Was he unpredictable and made “unconventional” moves? I mean in baseball for example you can see what makes Mike Trout great and what makes JJ Crawford completely average. What makes someone who is great at chess great at chess? I’m sure you’ve seen it but one of my favorite underrated movies is Searching for Bobby Fischer. Great cast, great small movie.

He knew the Russian better than they knew themselves. He learned Russian to study their moves. And, when he got to play Spassky, he changed up his game. The Russians who coached Spassky were lost after a few moves.
Try the movie Pawn Sacrifice. Tobey McGuire as Fischer and Liev Schrieber as Boris Spassky on the 1972 championship. Good movie, especially Schrieber.

Could Carlsen beat Fischer? We will never know. But Fischer beat the entire Soviet chess machine when he beat Spassky.

I googled it to see what they said .... game won at the sites I looked at. It's a mystery to me. I know the pieces and how they move but that's it.

Not sure, but I think I'd put my money on MC.

I know the pieces and how they move but that's it. I've been watching youTube videos, especially agadmator's. I learn a lot even though I'm watching Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen. The opening moves are a little fast but it's good to teach even a lump like me

I'd say Carlsen as well although I am loving watching Hikaru Nakamura on chess.com and on YouTube at the moment.

If it's 4D Chess, then it's Donald Trump (according to some of his supporters, at least).
