Sinéad and Puff Daddy "or whatever the f*** he calls himself"
and^ This, three years prior to her desperate Facebook broadcast from a Travelodge in the "arse-end" of New Jersey. It all goes back to the church and her early childhood for this woman. She looked strong performing in 2014, on the surface, but the physical is artful at disguising the traumas ongoing within. Rebellion began early : the new signing they wanted to be more sexy - so she shaved her head. The woman they wanted to abort her baby so as not to hinder her early career - so she gave birth to son Jake. The woman who was ordained in Lourdes a catholic 'priest' - after ripping up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live - (at a cost of an apology for said Pope-Sacrilege and a IR£150,000 donation to the bishop, one Michael Cox, who ordained her into 'priesthood'. "It would be a lie to say I bought my priesthood. This man would not have ordained me for any money if he had not known I had a true vocation. I made a donation not to Michael, but to the healing centre he has set up." Hmm. I don't know too much of what's happened with Sinéad O'Connor since last year, but it seems every time there is an attempt at getting the music back on track, something deep down and religious crawls up again to claim prominence and so the battle commences again. It's a not unsimilar juxtaposition to aspects of Marvin Gaye's time in this world, I have to say. But anyway here's a most recent number. There's no point in putting up Nothing Compares 2 U because I ain't listening to it right now. This is about her now deceased mother, whom Sinéad fled at aged 13 :
Forgiven by O'Connor in 2017 after her mother, Marie, died in a road crash. For the record, also in 2017 Sinéad claimed to have legally changed her name to Magda Davitt. And here's Magda Davitt a few months ago covering that wonderfully caustic number by Bob Dylan, 'Positively 4th Street' You can forgive the hoarse and less than great vocals (and even her reading from a lyric sheet!) but, man, you get that she needed this bit of indulgence :But most recently, Magda was at Shane McGowan's 60th birthday gig just one month ago and this is great! :
