My cat died a few years ago. I've had them since I was a little kid. My father was a big animal lover. I've often had cats, one or two at a time. My last cat was the sweetest ever, most affectionate and loving little goofball. Used to stick his head into the mouth of the dog to scratch his ears on the dog's teeth. Weirdo. He'd cuddle under the covers with me. It was very sad to lose him. Like I said, I really do love all animals very much. Sometimes I like them more than people. So, if somebody you were interested in was a cat lover, that wouldn't be a deal breaker for you? Nope. The deal breaker for me would be if someone was not an animal lover. Or if they abused animals. Then I'd kick them to the curb, probably literally.

No (although... potentially yes if there are too many pets). because I think it boils down to whether your a dog person or not. apparently you are not but I am a dog person (especially certain breeds I really like) so it would not be a issue. I think the only time it could end up being a issue is some people who have too many pets. like for example... one dog is totally okay, maybe three MAX (although I would say one, maybe two, is optimal) but much beyond this could be a issue. plus, I think with kids and ones financial situation will alter ones options a bit to etc.
Exactly.
I think that's a pretty good measuring stick of a person is how they treat animals, which will roughly tell you what kind of person they are. those who are neutral-to-negative with animals I would probably have more of a negative opinion (or at least so-so opinion) of that person (unless they have a excuse like if they are allergic etc), especially someone who does not like dogs. although I would understand if someone does not like it when big dogs want to jump on them etc though.

"Something else."
I think that general behavior toward pets ... mine, or his ... would be an invaluable indicator of what might lie ahead.
How does either one treat, or relate to the other's pet?
Legitimate allergies, or fears, need to be discussed at the onset.
- If one is accepting, friendly or playful with the others' pet, I would call that a good sign that he/she has a kind, easy, and has a generally pleasant nature with other beings.
- If there is a cool distance (without discussion about the reason), I think that would signal concern.
- Any open hostility, or cruelty, should be an EMERGENCY ALERT! to get out.
- If one party is obsessively attentive to a pet, to the near-exclusion of others, it might be time to move on.

Being a dog lover is important to me, so "must love dogs" would be a requirement. THAT would be my personal deal breaker. Dogs and any other animal, truthfully. Agree 100%.

My gals live in my house, no animals are allowed here Neither one of us had any money. I wasn't going to pay from her dog. Now, she lived across the hall. If there was nothing else, she could have kept her dog in her apartment. But it had major abandonment issues. It had to be drugged everyday when she left. Or otherwise it would bark and tear her apartment to shreds. ok so thats a dog thats not being cared for properly so That would be a deal breaker for me.

What does that entail? Do the dogs sleep with you? What about cats? How many dogs do you have? Yes, my dog sleeps on the bed when he chooses to, and while he's crate trained, I only put him in there when I must leave the house for an extended period of time. I leave the crate open for him with a thick blanket and water and he goes in whenever he wants to because he likes it in there. He's welcome to sleep wherever he wants. I am wondering, why do you put the dog in the crate when you are going out for long at all if he is trained/presumably adult?

If I leave him alone, he chews stuff. So for his own safety, I crate him. He likes being in his crate, because a crate is never used as punishment,....only a place for him to go to feel safe. Generally when I go out, I take him with me. But if I have to go to a four hour appointment, I'm obviously not leaving him in the car (especially given we're in the summer). I'm very protective of him.

I recently had a lady move in across the hall from me. She was beautiful and good company. But she had this dog that was big. It jumped on everybody. And apparently it shed on all her furniture. We both had efficiencies. Many people are allergic to dog and/or cat hair. And veterinarian bills, as well as pet food can be expensive. I suggested she get her dog trained. She said she couldn't afford it. I really liked her. But I didn't want to deal with her dog. What do you think? Love me, love my Westie. That's what I always say.

What if you met the guy of your dreams, and he was allergic? Sorry, we're a package deal. So your dog is more important to you --- than true love?

I'm asthmatic, so it could prove problematic. Also - NOT a dog person. I do like cats though, so I'd be open to a cat lady.
