I don’t think it made the money they were hoping for, especially compared to A Bug’s Life.

DreamWorks SKG actually did attempt to make a sequel to Antz, but as a direct-to-video release. A few months later, they merged their television and direct-to-video units into their feature animation division, but according to the report, the sequel was still in the works. So, it beats me to know why it was cancelled afterwards. |

It wasn't as successful as they expected, and since Bug's Life made more the same year, they knew they wouldn't have had hope for the next one to earn their money back. Ironically, I like this movie more.

As usual with defunct animated film projects that I've read about, I guess it was cancelled because there were story problems. |

At this point probably not much demand, especially if Woody Allen were to reprise his character. At this point I don't think most remember the movie all that much. It came and went and it doesn't seem like the studio wants to really celebrate its existence. |
